i am in the market for a brake controller and wanted to find out which ones everyone was using and if they had any problems with them. also any thing i should watch out for during installation such as where to place it in the cab. any help is appreciated.

get the jordan ultima 20/20 . it has a cable that hooks to your brake pedal, none of this inertia crap that doesn't ever seem to work quite right. I can't figure out why they ever got away from the hydraulic units of the 70's and 80's. plus another thing about the jordan is you will have brakes if you are backing up or on a hill, doesn't sound like a lot, but once I was in the mountains locked up in 4x4 on solid snow pack ice. reached a point where I could go no further, put my foot on the brake and the trailer was pulling me truck wheels locked toward some rather large pine trees, luckily I had the pressence of mind to reach down and manually operate the controller to lock the trailer tires too. wouldn't have had the problem with a jordan.

Prodigy

I have the Prodigy and it works well. This is the best controller I have had, and I love it. I here the Brakesmart is the best out there but there have been problems with availability.

Hope this helps

I have the brakesmart and love it. This thing works off of the hydralics of you truck and gives you true braking pwr according to the amount of pressure you are using to stop the truck.

I also have the Prodigy and like the way it works. I mounted mine on the removable panel below the steering wheel on the left side. It's pretty much in line with the gas pedal. I got mine here http://www.rjays.com/ they had the best price and were good to deal with, fast delivery too. Buy the wiring harness and all you have to do is plug one end into the controller and the other into your trucks wiring harness, it doesn't get any easier. :)

I also have the Tekonsha Prodigy and really like it. It does provide braking while backing up without manual activation. The Brakesmart and Jordon may have smoother initial activation since they aren't inertia styles, but the ease of install and removal if you need to use it in a different vehicle as well as how well it works sold me on the Prodigy.

With some (most?) inertia controllers you need to be careful of the angle you mount them on. With the Prodigy you don't have to worry about it so you can mount it just about anywhere you like.

If you are towing a trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes I don't think you can use an inertia style controller...

Well, here's another vote for the Tekonsha Prodigy. I tow a hay trailer up to 10k and never feel it back there pushing me at all. Easy set up for the trailer wt. and easy to wire in. I got a pigtail with the truck, it was in the glove compartment and hooked up to the Prodigy's removable harness. Only 4 or 5 wires, and then the Dodge supplied pigtail plugs into the fitting near the brake pedal lever. Here is where I mounted mine.

I had the Jordan, but the cable kept slipping. Went with the Prodigy and I could not be happier! Prodigy all the way, from my experience.

Mine has worked great. I can't complain one bit. I like it that I can see the display through the steering wheel and I can easily reach it with my hand. I put mine here:

After reviewing this thread, I bought the Prodigy brake controller and installed it yesterday. I used dbl-sided tape and put it on the knee bolster on the right side of the steering column -- it can easily be seen through the lower part of the steering wheel. I tested it for about and hour, towing the trailer around town, and everything is in order.

Question: It can't be turned off with a switch, it has to be unplugged and then reset the next time it's used, or it has to be left in place. I called the Prodigy technical assistance number this morning, and they said the unit draws . 011 milliamps (or 0. 11 milliamps, I can't remember which) in "standby mode. " Have any of you had any experience with current draw by the Prodigy when your truck has been sitting idle for a few days?

Thanks.
