....the TD5 suffered massive from oil leaks, the most interesting of it is the one where the oil creeps from the cylinder head through the wiring harness into the ECM (located below the passenger seat) and fries it.
Very unique.

It is a British car thing... I like to say if it is not leaking, it is probably out of oil! Actually, I have only had minor weeping on the Disco, but found some in the rear seal of the transfer case when I had it apart for other work, so replaced it at that time. I can't claim to know all the details on the TD5 from experience, as it was never put in a US spec vehicle, but the things I read gave it over-all positive reviews. All vehicles, especially when new have issues.. do we even need to talk about the issues on the 3rd Gen Cummins BlueTec emissions, oil dilution with fuel, a DMF that didn't last 50K miles, the excessive heating of the G56 transmission, problems with the automatic transmissions, and of course the plethora of steering issues. I get it, you don't like the brand, and certainly there are reasons to not like it, but it's been in my family most of my life, one way or another, so perhaps I just don't see the negatives as clearly, especially seeing as I have had a lemon from GM, one from Dodge, and some continued issues on the new Cruzes.. I guess I have come to expect some issues and perhaps I don't get too worked up about it, knowing all vehicles are like their designers and builders, flawed in some ways and they can all use some improvements over time.

Hi Michael

That's absolutely okay to like them and care for them, I just have seen to much fails that wouldn't be necessary with proper engineering.
Maybe as a Swiss I'm to close to them, to many LR around and to many frustrated owners. Our Forum was full of cries for help the last 20 years, i got the full Monty.
Part of the problem were the owners that just bought one because it was "cool" and wanted to be like Daktari. They made the most noise because they expected a normal state of the art car and couldn't believe that LR Defenders and Disco I/II are not the like.
Over here in the US I meet way more people that are very excited about the old LRs and think it's the greatest Offroader ever built. I think it's because they are rare.
The same applies to the Landcruiser 70 Series, not available here, not aware of the problems we had over at Home with them.

Conclusion on my part; there is light and shadow on all vehicles, some more, some less, no brand is free from all troubles.
But one can be sure, I did my homework before I bought the Ram 8 years ago - and a Ram is so exotic in Europe as a LR is over here. People were shaking their heads about my decision to buy that.... (fill in what I can't write).

So, yeah, I'm very fine with you that you like your LRs and have fun with it.
