DOT 3 absorbs less water than DOT 4, and if the system is sized correctly the higher boiling point shouldn’t be a factor. You are doing something wrong if you get DOT 3 close to it’s boiling point on these trucks.
I’ve never had any issues with DOT 3 and never noticed any difference after a change or felt any degradation, but I do change my fluid more than many I know. Along with PS fluid, brake fluid is one of the most neglected fluids in automobiles.
