Hello all,

I just finished replacing all of the brake lines on my truck. Yeah, they rusted out. I cannot believe how badly almost every line was rusted. I had a small hole in one of my lines. I realized, while replacing the lines, that replacing just one would have been ill-advised.

I was going to bend the lines myself. But, decided to go with pre-bent stainless lines instead. I purchased the flex lines and stainless line sets from EGR Brakes. Glenn was a huge help in getting the right parts and technical help I needed due to a brain fart.

Dodge Engineers are... ... amazing... ... . ly irritating! Not only did they make the doors with poor drainage, resulting in RUST. But, they used several different types of line fittings. From different sizes, to switching from standard to metric throughout...

In short, all owners of 2nd gen. trucks should do a thorough inspection of all lines, especially the one going to the rear brakes.

yep. the one behind the tank into the block where the lever and flexline for the rear brakes connect rusts fast and often.
Funny, they make SS exhaust a standard feature on cars to prevent emissions problems and use crappy raw steel brake lines! I'm sure SS line would've bankrupted Dodge and NO ONE would've been willing to pay the extra $20 for the truck to have them factory. Thats why we pay $2000+ for air bags, so we can live long enough to pay the insurance company back when the brakes fail!!

it not only applies to the Dodge trucks but GM as well. I was at a track in NJ and a guy next to me had a GM truck and his brake line burst when he had to make an emergency stop. I checked mine and the lines were really scary with all the corrosion. I have ordered all s. s. lines and yes they are different fittings. Thanks Dodge for making the lines corrode so much and for the different size fittings.
