Brake Proportioning Valve on 3rd Gens? How do 3rd generation trucks handle rear brake proportioning? My '06 2500 4x4 seems like it could use some more rear-wheel braking when loaded. Is it supposed to sense the weight in some way? I could find no proportioning valve on the rear axle or anything else like a strain guage (no wires running from anything) or anything that would sense the level on the suspension (read deflection on springs from carrying extra weight) on this truck.

It only stands to reason that the rear brakes would need to do more work when the truck is loaded than would be desireable when empty. Surely they don't put more aggressive braking on the rear at all times for running at max load and then allow the rear brakes to go to impending lock-up when empty, requiring the abs to manage the situation. Or do they?

There is no mechanical proportioning valve, but the ABS has a proportioning valve.

It calculates how hard you step on the brakes, and how fast it stops to figure out if you're empty. It seems to work quite well.

Actually, the throttle response changes also between empty and full. Just tow something heavy, then immediately drive it empty and see how fast it runs when you just touch the pedal, so it can tell when you are empty or full.

I wish throttle response would stay that way all the time, but the lawyers don't think it's safe.

Computers everywhere, and they talk to each other too.
