Mine shows up every now and then after going over a bad bumpy road due to the E-brake pedal slightly moving towards the floor causing the light to come on. I just stick my foot under the pedal and pull it back to its normal position. It doesn't happen that much so when I see my light, I panick. Then I remember about the pedal and that has always been the case.
One other time my Brake light and ABS light stayed on all the time. I checked wires and fluid and all was fine. I found on the posts here to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect it back up. This resets the computer and sure enough, lights have stayed off since.

Check to see if the park brake petal is all the way up. That is the one over looked the most.

Mined stayed on for a while and I could not figure out why. It turned out that my booster was going bad. It had a slooow leak and slightly impared the braking. When I replaced it, WOOOOWWW, brakes again.

Thanks guys,

I doubt it is the e-brake because she uses that all the time. I glanced at the fluid level and that also looked fine. I'm going to visit this weekend and I'll report back with what I find. Hopefully, I'll be eating my words about the e-brake or fluid. I hope it isn't a bad booster, but we'll see.

Thanks again,
Chris

Chris,
There's a vacuum sensor on the left inner fender. Follow the small hose that tees off the large hose going to the booster to find it. Unplug this sensor's electrical connector, if the light goes out you have a vacuum leak or a bad sensor(have only seen one bad in ten years).
Good luck.

So you guys are saying a problem with the regular brakes can cause the parking brake light to stay on??? Mines been on forever! Dont tell me I gotta replace something else! That Cummins is ripping my poor Dodge into pieces!... and I love it.

I yanked out the bulb to get mine through the inspection - you'll find this is cheaper.

Guys, I need some help.

On my mom's '93 5-speed, the "brake" light is showing on the dash. I haven't got to check the truck out yet, but she wants it fixed because she can't get it inspected with the brake light on.

My question is, what triggers this warning light. I know low fluid would do it, but what else?

Thanks,
Chris

there are a few things that will cause the light to come on. low vacuum, porportioning valve, park light switch, bad flex line[there are three or four with 4x4]. check them all. trying to stop 6500lbs with your foot is a bummer.

Mine came on, in conjunction with the ABS light, when a rear axle seal leak globbed up the shoes and brakes started acting up.

Once I replaced the seals and shoes, the light has not been back on.
