Brakes

After 18,000 miles on my 2015 I'm pretty pleased with the truck. It has plenty power and rides fairly well for a 3500. I do wish it had better brakes. My 01.5 with disc brakes was way better for stopping the truck. My 2015 takes a lot more pedal pressure to slow down or stop. I was wondering if there are better after market pads that would improve the braking.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I think the best way to describe these brakes is that they are progressive and have a lot of modulation.....meaning, there is indeed plenty of power but it doesn't come on quickly. I am used to it now and it doesn't bother me. I can't help but think they set them up this way on purpose, I find grabby brakes equally bothersome.

I use TH and my EB all the time then finish off with service brakes to a stop.

Like you kthaxton, it took a bit of getting used to the braking, but it comes.

My 2015 2500 has plenty of brakes...but it does have a firm pedal at the top. I especially noticed it after coming out of the F150 I swapped for this truck.

I drove my 2003 1-ton last weekend for the first time in about a year, and was reminded that it too has the firm pedal from the top. That truck never had braking problems--at least not from the perspective of "not enough brakes."

Personally, I like the hard pedal, and only have an issue after I've been driving something that's overboosted like my F150 was. Of course, I still have manual disc brakes on my '72 Plymouth and I prefer that setup to the power brakes on my 67 Buick....so I'm probably an oddball.

kthaxton is right -- plenty of modulation and a very progressive system overall. It gives great control and feel throughout all loading conditions.

I wouldn't trade my 2016 brakes for the brakes that my 2nd gen had if my life depended on it. Mine is my first auto and I'm eager to see how long they last; I've been using T/H-exahust brake 90% of the time so far. My 2nd gen ate front rotors/ and pads for breakfast and I almost needed a second job to pay for parts.

Also, the 2016 weighs considerably more than the 2nd gen trucks.

Cycling the abs seems to help on my truck when the pedal begins to feel a little soft.
