Which RV Tires... ST or LT ??

Towing Mirrows

I've not heard of electric disc's, mine are hyd disc's like whats on the front of your car... they take an electric signal from a standard controller or like my post above the smart brake... . I like you, have 2 trailers with electric brakes... ... and their a constant headache to keep running..... the springs fall off the shoes if you don't have them adjusted. . the wires brake on the magnets, they wear out... . I personally think this whole electric brake thing is made by "" how cheep can we do it for the guy who uses a trailer 3-8 weeks a year and maybe 10K miles...

With the electric system we were always looking at it... . with the disc's we check them every 3 months..... we ran the lines and hoses in such a way to keep them out of the way... Our big problem in the winter is 300 lbs of ice and snow hanging from the bottom of the trailer... . we have pipe we run all wires through... .

I'm very unhappy with the price of pads on the Dexter axle system, as they are unique to Dexter and you can purchase a good set for a car for $30. 00 and the dexter set is $110. 00... . Other than that... . I'm excited about the elect/hyd disc brakes... . BTW the Dexter pads went almost 100K...

Need to proof read ....

You are correct Jim... . I meant hydraulic disk... Electically controlled. I like the idea of getting 100K before needing hard parts. Seems like we buy a complete hub assembly every 40K.

I am guessing it will 3K+ in parts to do one trailer. Hate to find out these setups don't do well offroad.

I have a question about the $$$ for the Dexter pad system.

I am replacing the front disc pads on my 02 3500. I have about 50k and the set cost $60 or about $1/ k miles in pad cost. The dexters you said were $110 for 100k miles or about the same $1/ k miles pad cost.

Is $1/ k miles about the standard? Just curious.

If say the dexters cost $500 and went 500 k miles would that be unreasonable?

Some of you that do your own pad replacement chime in with your $ / k miles and let's see sort of what the norm $ / k miles is.

The comment about car disc pads being $30, but if they only went 30k miles then ... ... ...

Just want to see what the norm is,

Thanks in advance,

Bob Weis

ps: If the Dexter system is not reasonable, then what other systems are used and what is their cost to re pad or re rotor.

What is the Dexter cost to re rotor?

For everyone who is considering switching to electric over hydraulic brakes:

Buy and try the BrakeSmart controller with your standard electric drum brakes first. You may find that the braking is so good, you don't need the expensive disk brakes.

Worst case, you will already have the controller installed when you do switch over to the electric/hydraulic trailer brakes.

I did the BrakeSmart and really like it.

I think I am going to do the BrakeSmart ElecDraulic (the revised version is on their web page) because of the . 3 sec actuator time and it is dual master brake cylinder. One for axle 1 one for axle 2. And it totally integrates with their ElecDraulic.

Other things come first like SmarTire though because the BrakeSmart makes the electric brake system acceptable for a little while.

bells and whistles

Do they make a model w/out all the bells and whistles that just works and a little,no, much less expensive?
