About ready to buy a brake controller. Looked at Brakesmart a while ago, but when I found it wasn't being produced anymore, was going to get a Jordan. The Brakesmart is now available again, but it is pretty pricey! Which controller is adequate, and is the Brakesmart really worth more than twice the price of the Jordan? Thanks!

I've had both, and both are good. I prefer the BrakeSmart and it was worth the $350 I paid for it 2-1/2 years ago.

Depends what you want to spend. You won't go wrong with either - they're the only 2 controllers I would even look at today.

I own the brake smart... its an old one... . I'm about ready to put another truck into service and intend to buy the Jordan... . I'm not impressed with the price or the new owner of brake smart... . and I think the Jordan is an equal unit... .

Just my nickels worth...

I own a Jordan and have been up to 23,000 lbs with it with no issues. Jordan has been around for a very long time and it is the only company I know of that I can call if I have and issue (which I never have) and actually talk to the owner/inventor if I had to. They build a very reliable product and have been doing so long before BrakeSmart or other were around. Not bad mouthing here, just a little history. ;)

Let me help you decide.

Buy the BrakeSmart because you won't find a Jordan anywhere for at least 6 more weeks. BTDT, I have tried direct, contacted vendors, searched ebay and googled forever and no Ultima 2020 in site.

Buy the BrakeSmart because its "the Best There Is"!

I have learned over time that about 90% of the time when a fellow TDR member posts a "which one should I buy" question he is not really looking for objective advice but is more often looking for reinforcement for the decision he has already privately made or is leaning toward due to budget considerations, past experience, or other personal reasons so I try to avoid recommending a product.

I own a BrakeSmart and have nothing but praise for it. One of it's great advantages I think is that for someone who constantly pulls different trailers with widely varying weights and stopping ability like I do the BrakeSmart never requires any adjustment. It causes the trailer brakes to respond to the pressure I apply to the service brake just like the truck does. I am never surprised. If I press the brake pedal I get perfectly controlled, perfectly matched and modulated braking.

The former company that manufactured the BrakeSmart controller and now Dr. Performance will also answer your technical questions regarding the performance of their product. I have not had any warranty issues with the current unit I have or any problems whatsoever after close to 200k miles of use but the previous manufacturer replaced my controller twice without complaint or question when I experienced minor problems early in my ownership experience. At one point I had a problem with the controller, I think the digital display went dark, and called the previous rep on the phone. I explained that the truck was in use and I couldn't do without a brake controller while I shipped it back to him for repair or replacement. He mailed me one by priority mail based on nothing but my word over the phone and I removed the one I had and mailed it back to him, with prepaid shipping if I remember correctly.

I have never done business with a better company or experienced a better product. The BrakeSmart and the customer service behind it ranks right up there with Cummins engines in my opinion.

I just towed with a brakesmart for the first time and I LOVE it! Oo.

No more delayed brake actuation/release. No more adjusting the gain everytime time I hook up. And VERY easy to install.

Brakesmart owner since Nov 01 and would not own another. I don't tow as much as I did in the past (over 28k) but if/when I get a new vehicle I am keeping one of the two Brakesmarts I have now (in 96 and 03, 92 has old Kelsy but has not been used as a serious tow vehicle in 10 years) if I cannot buy a new one.

As Ron Popel says "set it and forget it"
