The pilot bearing failed on the original clutch. Had the Con OFE installed, I have about 30 miles on it so far. I have been taking it easy on take off and have not got on it very hard. Is there a break in period needed before any towing or driving less gingerly?

Thanks, Scott

i thought it was 200? i guess it depends on where you drive. the 250 mile drive home froms rips shop isnt gonna break anything in.

it's all ballpark... 1000 highway miles with minimal shifting vs. 50 miles of stop and go traffic?

just drive it normal and if it starts to slip at all back out instantly and put some more miles on it, etc.

Scott,

I am picking up my truck tonight with the CON OFE installed, John Isaacs at Floor-it Diesel says 200 miles break-in with a lot of shifting. I forgot to ask about towing anything before the 200 miles passes. I will try to remember to ask tonight.

Looks like I need to get used to this puppy. Engagement is a little quicker than before and when it hooks up it grabs. Almost feels like it's forcing the Cummins into submission. Still have a moments when it seems hard to get into gear but, I guess that will change once I get some miles under it. So far everything is good, no complaints.

If you are close to Benbrook TX and are looking to have a Southbend installed give Mac's Performance a call. They are located between Cresson and Benbrook TX and do great work, very quick I might add. I dropped the truck off at 9am and it was done at 2pm all for $400 R/R. You can find their number on Southbends website under the list of installers. I would have done it myself which I usually do but, I just did want to deal with it this time.

My poor clutch only had about 30 miles on it before I towed the fifth wheel home. We were on a road trip when the stock clutch gave up. I also noticed that the new clutch took about 2000 miles before it would hold the power the way I thought it should. That might be because of my insufficient break-in.

My OFE is still a bit grabby at around 20k miles on it. I have to run the rpm's up to 1100 and then as they are settling back down, ease the clutch out and get back on the diesel peddle to make a perfect smooth start. Any time I just ease the clutch out, it will lurch just a bit. This is in 2nd gear.

I had 32,000 miles before towing and the first tow when I pushed it the clutch slipped a little. Now after the first tow the clutch is not slipping anymore. I don't think the clutch ever really broke in until I towed.

The Con OFE is in, truck is being put back together. Should be done tomorrow morning. It's gonna get hooked up to a trailer first thing Monday morning. I need to figure out someplace to go for a road trip I guess.

I picked up my truck Friday the 13th and put 200 miles on the Con OFE in 5 days. According to John Isaacs at Floor-It Diesel Performance, lots of shifting in the first 200 miles and no heavy towing (16,000) pounds. John did say that my 9,000 pound horse trailer (with horses and tack) would not be a problem. I didn't baby the clutch. I have an Edge Comp set on 3x3 until I get my FASS installed in a couple of weeks.

The pedal pressure is the same or less than the stock clutch which lasted for 142,000 miles before it went Tango Uniform 3 miles from home. So far, I really like the clutch. It seems to be a bit quick to engage from 2nd gear, by that I mean that I can make the rear tires hop a bit if I am not careful. However, 1st gear starts are no problem.
