Let me educate YOU here, I've had several NEW trucks, Always ,and I repeat ALWAYS I do at least 500 miles before towing heavy. My point was WHERE in my 2014 manual does it reference this 500 mile thing, it does not . There was a gentlemen on RV Net that stated in a post that there was no break-in required having the same manual as mine , and so I went looking ,and he was correct.

I will repeat for you ,and others there is nothing in a 2014 manual that states a 500 mile break-in . I didn't read my manual when I bought the truck as far as the break-in, I do what I always do vary my speed , and no heavy towing for at least 500 miles.

Ron,

I don't know if you're referring to my post on RV.net or not, but I posted that the Cummins 6.7L does not require a break-in period. I went on to say that the axle needs a 500 mile break-in before towing.

I don't believe it was you, and no I am not Ron.

Cummins Engines do NOT need a break in period. Period ! From the 15 liter,down to 6.7 liter. y manual stated a break in for the rear diff of 500. Which ended up being about 200. 27, 000 later no problems,

There is more than one manual for our trucks. You should have the general operators manual one AND the Diesel Supplement. The general one has the towing break in that everyone is referring to. You don't have all of your manuals.
From what I remember, there is the "speeds under 55mph for the first 50 miles" and the "full throttle operation" after that. Then there is the first 500 miles of towing thing.

We have a winner, its evident I didn't get all the manuals or a diesel supplement I should of, and the one I have does not have the 500 mile break-in .

Sorry - I mistook you for someone else. I'll read more closely next time.

Rusty

No problem, the member on RV Net was CampingN.C. It was a different thread on tow vehicles. He is the one I am talking about thinking there was no break-in on his truck , and I agreed there is nothing in manual I got that referenced the 500 mile, and apparently we both did not get all the manuals we should have.

For the record ,I wasn't asking how to break-in a truck, I've broke in several, and have always done at least 500 miles before putting it to work.

It's really not a case of should have......FCA will send them to you for the price of an 800 phone call. Quite a bit of information in them but most likely there isn't anything in them that you don't already know......:-laf

Thanks , I am due to pick up my new 2500 Ram next week, and have seen some different recommendations on breaking-in. I will, of course, go with the 800km no towing, then 800km at 80km/hr max (towing a 3.3tonne caravan). We have a new source for right hand drive conversions in Australia, set up with. a company (Walkinshaw) in Melbourne.

AussieRam;
Looks like you have a plan, which is good. But don't baby it either. That Cummins engine likes to get out and work. Some say, "drive it like you STOLL IT". And some do, with no regrets. Its your wheels treat it with TLC.

My 11 HO had 13 miles on it when I picked up at DaveSmith. I had long drive home and ran the hell out of it going up and down 6% grades and on wide open roads. I ran it up to 90+ on all road conditions. Engine or trans never gave me a bit of trouble over 65K. The engine NEVER made oil and trans shifted great. This "break in" was recommended by the Service Manager.
