In trying to get a little better throttle response out of my truck, I started tracing the throttle linkage and ended up on top of the pump housing.

Well I found that the breakover spring was out of adjustment, (per pastor Bob's posting) and that the retaing nut that connects (?) the two plates together was missing. I then manipulated the the plates to achieve the breakover spring position as indicated and placed a new retaining bolt. But my idle was way off and my throttle travel had decreased significantly.

As I am time poor this is where the situation stands. Any help would be appreciated. My thought is that the pump hand been tweaked prior to my ownership and settings had been changed. Not allowing the return to stock settings?

Try adjusting your throttle rod (10mm jambnuts, screw the turnbuckle to lengthen it) so the throttle lever contacts the low idle stop screw on the back side of the pump. If that dont work, I dont know what to tell ya.

ANy time you turn up the full flow, it will increase the idle speed, as the governor is fooled into flowing more fuel, and increasing idle. Backing out the low idle screw will alleviate this.

You didnt take the set screw out that keeps it all together, did you? if you did that (removed the shaft), you have to get it lined up just like it was in the beginning. iF you didnt remove the shaft, dont wory about it. If so, PM me, and I'll try to walk you through it.

That is why I only tinker when I dont have to be at work the next day, and then only in daylight. Unless it is something trivial, like an AFC adjustmet, that I can do with my eyes shut.....
