I've read posts about blue lights being better but when I went to the parts store and saw the variety of lamps, I decided to make some calls. I talked to GE and Sylvania and both said the blue lamps aren't brighter, they make them to keep up with market demand. I asked both - which lamps will light up the road the best? Both make lamps that are accually brighter - Sylvania 9004XV and GE 9004HO. Both companies said that these are the best for brightness and vision. I got the GE's at Walmart - 2 pack for $16.
The stock lights had such a blotchy pattern, I couldn't tell where they were aimed. I put the 9004HO's in and shined them at the garage wall and they were aimed like Marty Feldmans' eyes! After getting them aimed right, I was very pleased. They're like headlights used to be and they even have an extra bright spot in the center so you can tell where they're aimed. It takes a T-15 driver for the aiming screws. The right/left screw is at the inside of each light(by the radiator) and the up/down screw is just under the center of the glass lens.
That's one more annoying problem fixed! Craig

Good work on the headlamps. I agree that the blue bulbs are a sham. I was not aware of the HO or XV 9004's.
I went with the Sport headlamp conversion and could not be happier.
If I add the HO's it might be too much! #ad

Hey Craig,

Thanks for the info! A buddy and I were talking about this the other day - sometimes we can't even tell that our lights are on they are so dim.

I'll be picking up a set today! #ad

Craig,
Did the manufactures happen to tell you what the wattage is on these new bulbs?
Thanks.

I added a pair of the 9007 AND 9004 PIAA Platinum Series Super White bulbs when I installed my '00 Sport headlights (along with the applicable Brite-Box). Talk about AWESOME lighting! I wonder if I will have to apply for a license from the NRC to run these? LOL.

Josparkz, Sorry for getting back to you so late, I've been gone! I forgot to ask Sylvania but GE told me their's are 10 watts more on each beam - 9004 is 45 on low and 9004HO is 55 watts on low, etc. I told them they better correct the misprint on the back of the pack then because both packages read 45 watts for low beam and that was the main reason I called them, to verify if there really is a difference. They assured me that the 9004HO is 10 watts more. It's very obvious that they're brighter! They also said they won't melt any plastic parts - they are meant to be a direct/safe replacement for the 9004. I haven't been out of the city yet at night but they sure look like decent, respectable headlights now. Instead of lighting up the whole world just a little bit, they light up the road straight ahead much better and farther. I couldn't believe so much change just from the lamp. I noticed the tip of the HO's are blacked out farther back than the stock lamps. I can tell you this too, I had no problem aiming the HO's because they have a very defined pattern!
I asked GE a few more questions than Sylvania but I think the 9004XV is the same story. The Sylvania package said 20% brighter, which would be approx. 10 watts. Craig

I went and got the GE's at WalMart also. How do you go about getting the stock lamps out? Sorry for the dumb question. There is a grey keeper behind the lamp, does it turn or twist and allow the lamp to come out?

Thx
Kerry

Yep. I did mine a couple of weeks ago now, but that's the way I remember it - twist then pull straight back. Just the opposite going in.

Well, they sound pretty good. I should probably call Brite-box up and see if they will work with their product. They tell you not to use high powered bulbs. I tried some extra white ones(or something like that) last year and one exploded. Made a mess in the headlite housing Of course, I could unplug the Brite-box and try some. I like the idea of being able to see them so you can aim them.
Thanks.

DeeZal - thank's for keeping the site you refer to on "blue lite" in your memory bank. I bought the Piia's because of all the hype on this BBS. What a sham. This purchase is what soured me on the acclaims of the aftermarkeeteers. Then there's K&N, Amsoil, etc, etc.

My sweet bride picked up a pair of the GE's for me @ Sam's today. One stupid question- can you get to them without pulling the batteries and boxes? TIA

Extremely long arms and being double jointed help #ad

But it can be done with normal arms also.

Took care of this chore in about 15 Min. Drop lite is all that is needed unless changing in the sunlite. No problem. Piece of cake. . with a little light on the subject.
