i also experienced a broken throttle control rod while towing a 5th wheel with my 96 ,2500 4wd. i made similar roadside repair long allen wrench with small hose clamps attached like a splint. failure was at forward threads. my

problem is the dodge dealer told me they are out of stock and his records indicate none available. i have tried a few salvage yards but no help. does anyone have a spare they want to sell or advice on a replacement.

dodge p/n for the control rod is 04874517. the rube goldberg fix is working for now but i would like to make a permanent repair/fix. to clarify dodge says the part is no longer avail from them.

thanks in advance

The rod is probably not available because Dodge had a recall kit that took the place of the original parts. I ran into the same issue when mine broke. Have the dealer run your VIN and see if it isn't due the recall. If not, he can at least find the part number for the kit for you.

Call Cummin's they have them and cheaper then Dodge. Bad thing is they have to order it and it take a week or two.

The rod is not included in the recall

You are correct. It came to me about 2:30 last night. One of the heim joints broke on mine and I had to by the rod with the heim joints, couldn't get just the heim joint. That's when the tech pointed out that the other dealer that had done my recall had not replaced the joints, just the cable.

It's all coming back now. It stinks getting old... ... ...

Please provide your Engine Serial Number and I will check availability from Cummins if you want.

It could indeed be a Cummins part.

If you are not comfortable posting your ESN on here feel free to e-mail it to me at... .

Is this it??? This is what Cummins shipped with that engine to Dodge. If it is not shown in this illustration than it will be a Dodge item.

If it is the rod and parts shown here, then tell me what key numbers you need and I will get you part numbers and pricing. I assume that you would need 7 and 8 if this the set-up that your truck has.

Bob,

This is a little sketchy.....

There is a part number for the assembly consisting of items 3 through 8, that has a part number of 3923068. But it comes up with no pricing and a message to call distributor for more info. I hope that does not mean that they have dropped it... ... .

The individual parts do still price out except for items 7 and 8, don't like the look of that either.

I can't do any more until I can call Cummins Northeast on Monday, I can't see factory stock or the notes involved.

#3 3914362 $8. 48

#4 3915103 $23. 24

#5 3915104 $2. 91 (Qty 2 Req. )

#6 3990093 $8. 73

#7 3923036 No pricing

#8 3923074 No pricing

Let me know if you want me to call Cummins Monday, I will gladly do it.

Would like to get to the bottom of this.

If #7 and #8 are NLA it looks like you can still get #3 at least. If you can get the old hunk of it out of #7 which is LH thread that might save the day at least.

thanks for the parts list i will call cummins cal pacific on mon . you are right if i can at least get item 3 that will help. Getting the old broken thread out of item 7 may be a pain. You have been a great help mike

Does anyone remember what the adjustment is to remove the free travel? and get the proper travel in the pump?It was posted a long time ago cause I did it to mine. This might be a good addition to the FAQs on top of the 12 valve forum.

Some of the parts supercede to a kit. That kit is full of parts that will not work... ... ... ... . very frustrating to try and fix a hi mile 12v with worn linkage.

mike

the broken throttle rod has been replaced. i only needed parts 3,4,5 from your list. i was able to get the broken threaded piece out of item 8. ordered parts from cummins mon they were del tue and installed same day. test drive was fine . still thinking about adding a piece of rod from the the front rod end to the rear with hose clamps holding the rod. the standard rod seems a little wimpy. thanks again

Excellent, glad that Cummins came through for you.

Hate to think these parts might be someday heading down the road to obsoleteville... ... .
