Unbelievable - I've had my front Buckstop bumper ( https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64537&highlight=buckstop ) on my truck for exactly 15 days and already got in an accident. The good news for me is that I didn't even get a scratch - the bad news for the other driver is that her Cavalier is most likely totaled!

Driving in town today she was in the left lane in front of me (by about two feet - I was in the right lane) and decides that she has to get into that parking lot RIGHT there on the right. Locked up her tires and swerved across my lane. I locked mine up too but of course my 7500 lb truck wasn't going to slow quite as fast! I hit the right rear corner of her car with the left outside part of my bumper (she was turned about 30 degrees towards the side). Slammed her car 90 degrees to the side perpendicular to my truck - the whole center section of my bumper was pressed into the side of her car. I could just see the WIDE whites of her eyes over the hood and through the window opening (the window was now gone).

After getting out I checked to make sure she was ok which she was then got the two vehicles off the road. Then I looked at my truck and to my elation there wasn't even a scratch on the bumper! Just one small black mark on it that I was able to wipe off with my thumb. The rear bumper of her cavalier was hanging from the left side of the car and the entire right side was demolished. A couple of witnesses stopped and the cops got there in a few minutes. They asked what had happened and we and the witnesses told them. You could see the black streaks in the road to show exactly what happened. They looked at her car and then asked where the other vehicle that was involved was. I pointed to my truck. They said "no really, where's the other vehicle". I told them again and they started laughing! Then they told me I was free to go - didn't even take my name because they said I wasn't at fault at all and since I had no damage and we're in a no fault state that I didn't need to be involved. MAN do I like this bumper!!!

Just a Cavalier??

You gotta come see me when you take the front of a Chevy Tahoe off. :D :D

I can't imagine driving around Houston without my body armor.

I've been thinking about that UTE from Denver Off Road for a while and mentioned it to my friend. He thinks putting a bumper on like this takes away what the car manufactures put into their bumpers, crushing ability. - anyway, it got me to thinking about what would happen if I was involved in an accident that was my fault and the person was seriously injured or killed. Of course it would have to come to a lawsuit, but still makes me wonder... either way, the UTE bumper is too much money right now and I'd rather get gauges and exhaust brake first.

Either way, I'm glad the truck wasn't hurt nor was anyone else.

Steve you best be very carefully with that bumper. Don't go pushing none of those fords/chevys around to get them out of the way. Good looking bumper. I bet that lady had to change her undies after getting hit by that. Glad to hear she was ok.

I took out a big doe with my crudely constructed stainless steel front bumper... . All I had to do was wipe off some fur and realign my headlight... .

The purchase price is well worth it after you whack something. And folks are VERY reluctant to pull out in front of you with something mean looking on the front of your truck..... the Cavalier girl was just living up to her car's name. She was driving in a VERY cavalier manner... .

Had a 4" pipe bumper with a 8K Ramsey winch and a push bar made of 1/2" steel that stood as tall as the hood on my old '75 Ford highboy diesel. Lady sticks about 4 feet of her Caddy out into the road in front of the K-Mart. . until she sees me coming down the road. So she slams it in reverse and pushes the car behind her back into the parking lot. I never let off the throttle. :D

Great to hear that nobody was injured. An accident is bad enough, let alone injuries.

Long live the Urban Assault Vehicles!!!

I would think that the bumper price would cancel out the Bump & Boogie deductible for the Mopar aluminum foil bumper mounts and secondary repairs to the front end.

Now you can get a little cavalier silhouette for your front fender. Get a good collection of those, and you will have a 50ft "No Drive Zone" around you at all times.

Ya know, this would be about the time I'd call my insurance company with that story and ask "Do you know just how much I saved your company??? Let's talk about a small reduction in my rates... ... "

:D

Tin foil throw away bumpers

I have heard the comments in different forums, on changing to aftermarket bumpers from those who believe it's OK to be in a minor accident and total out your vehicle .

What about the issues after the accident that some may not think about, like large repair bills that will send your insurance sky high whether it was your fault or not; ---what about the possibility that your rig will never drive quite right again and or look quite right again (paint and panel fit), ---- what about when you go to sell it, the price you get will not be the same as if it hadn't been in an accident.

I personally have aftermarket bumpers on both my trucks front and rear and wouldn't be without them. Manufactures have designed crumple zones and if hit hard enough these bumpers will play right into what is suppose to happen.

Aftermarket bumpers, will for the most part, save your truck from Deer, Elk, parking lot posts, minor finder benders, and stupid women cutting in front of you. ;)

Good story Steve,

Have you got that thing coated to match yet? You really ought to do the top bars green to keep your lines the same.

Rkohn - they are painted to match. At least as close as I could get from the color chips. It all depends on the lighting as to how close it looks. Most of the time it's very close. Part of the difference is the rockers having a pebbled texture puts some shadows on it which changes the way it look - as opposed to the smooth bumpers.
