The guy who books my loads was on his way to Alaska with a load of horses and called me last night from Montana. Said he thought he had a rod knocking. I assured him it was an injector problem and not to worry
He called me tonight and told me that lube shop he used before he left Missouri used a Valvoline oil filter, and the '04 Cummins sucked the filter media up and killed #6. He called the lube shop and they said "sorry about your luck", but according to my buddy, they admitted knowing about an approved filter list. Apparently the Valvoline rep just happened to be there and said that the company who makes Valvoline filters was on the approved list ... ... ... ... I can't remember the company he named as his cell was breaking up really bad ... ... ... ... but he did say this company was not on the list. (He had the list in his hands from the Dodge dealer who has his truck)
I remember seeing a list floating around here and thought Wix was approved, he said they weren't ... ... ..... I've used Wix for 180,000 miles
The final repair bill is gonna be $12,000 and change, he said going straight to Cummins would save him $1,500 but it'd be 3 weeks longer for the short block. This all sounds a bit steep to me.
His truck is an '04 QC dually, with the 305 motor, auto and 200,000 miles ... ..... he tried to trade it, but they only offered him $6,000 with a junk motor :-laf
