What is the best way to replace the bulb behind the Fuel Gauge in the dash on a 04 ram cummins? does the dash come apart like the 1st and 2nd gens? I was going to suprise my father inlaw by replacing it for him.

if anyone has any pics that would be great!!

I just changed some on my 03. The dash comes apart but it is more of a process then the 2nd. gens. I had to take the steering column cover off and then start taking the cluster out. Going from a feeble old memory first remove the frame that covers the cluster and than there are some screws that hold the cluster in place. The dash cover to the right needs to be pulled out to give more room. Once the cluster is loose you need to carefully remove the connector blocks from the back. Each one has a sneaky little lock on it. You can than remove the cluster and change the lamps. Make sure you have the correct lamps on hand before you start so you can finish the job and not have to do it twice like me. I had to go to 3 different dealerships before I found one that had the lamps in stock. They seem to be a unique lamp that I could not find any where except the dealership. They are a tiny little boogers. Sorry I don't have a part number or pics.

There are eleven bulbs in the instrument cluster. Suggest replacing them all while you are in there. I started at left of dash removing screws and worked my way to the right. Did not have to remove steering wheel cover. Took about an hour total. I had nine of the eleven burnt out! Not nearly as big a job as I had anticipated - should of done it sooner.
