Gary Gary Gary WHAT WILL WE DO WITH YOU!!!

No need to call out the National Guard, im just asking peoples opinion. Im not above taking advice from someone that has used a product that I have not.

Please don't let Greg run up here he needs is rest.

My favorite load for . 338 was 250 Hornady spirepoint, 75 gr Rel 22 (longer throat in barrel), WLRM primers, WW brass, 2900 fps (29" barrel). Worked from antelope to elk.

BIG,

Asking people's opinions, Holy Grain Weight Batman, what's next?

BIG, You a hand loader or an off the shelf kinda guy?

While my collection of racks (make that rack) is not impressive, I'm partial to Hornady. Yup, I hand load. Like the hand crafted touch.

I use the Rel 22 at 108gr with 225 gr Nosler Partition out the end at 3260 Federal Magnum #215.

What is FACTORY AMMO???? is it some kind of new thing? Have ALWAYS shot home brew

I've had very good success with Barnes. I'm going to work up a load for my . 308 but I have some already for . 338 (160 and 200) and 6. 5x55. Rock and roll!

I like the 180 gr nosler and 200 gr speer. I want to reload some 160 gr barnes for lighter work. I also like Winchester 760 and reloader 19 for powder. Love the . 338 win mag!

With 108 gr you are using something bigger like the . 338/. 378 I used to have. With a 26. 8" barrel it gave 250 gr 3100 fps. Longer barrels were better; 31" gives over 3300.

Good catch yes I cant do without my 338/378 in the field, but with that long of a barrel I would have to buy a taller mule to carry it. I had mine re-barreled and have shot the 250 and larger bullets with excellent results but with age (me not the rifle) I just cant see where the extra punishment justifies same result in their use, the 225 gr bullets have preformed very well at long range.

Providing you actually have options (READ - can find any), I'd stick with what you have used in the past, or something close, make your rounds as consistent as possible (powder drop, COAL, crimp, preloaded case length and sizing, and if you are that concerned about it, weigh out each bullet to cull any that are +/- . 2gr. ).

I have learned that it's not the bow & arrow, it's the Indian that makes the shot. Home brew match grade ammo, decent quality optics or sights, and a barrel that is not worn out, it then boils down to the operator, and knowing wind, temp, humidity, and altitude effects on your shot at range.

I have 2 AR's (a 16" and 18" Mk12) that I assembled from the ground up and both shoot . 75moa (not calculated, actual 100y 10 round groups) with my M193 reloads. Factory ammo has too much leeway in the variables. Federal Match Ammo can be +/- . 5gr. on the powder and meet their quality standards. Nothing leaves my press that is more than . 2gr either way.

I would presume that you have a good recipe or have done some ladder loads to see what performs best out of your rifle. Load 150, and hit the range with 100 and get some trigger time in. It does not matter what bullet you use if you know you can place each shot w/in 3" of your POA @ 300y. A standard round nose to the head or heart is just as lethal as an exploding round to COM.

Perhaps you have my article on loading for the . 338-378 in Handloader #141, September 1989. I didn't do much with the 225 gr but 109 gr. of IMR7828 gave 3323 fps. Various powders and 250 grain bullets gave mid-3100s with the best being 3163fps. The best with the 300 Barnes was 2998 fps; all velocities uncorrected.

After those insults, BIG:-laf! I need my "REST":-laf:D!??

These fellers needs a reminder of just what yer shootin'!

Mr. Donnelly seems like he has some experience in this field:D!

BIG shoots a "CANNERN"! He NEEDS a CANNERN where he hunts!

This is a "pictcher" of him firing his CANNERN sighting in with them light weight , high velocity Pro Jo'sOo during "LOAD development! I believe he "Told me" it was a "3 BAG Charge"! :D

If yer around him when he torches one off, yew wont have any hair left on yer exposed skin!

The problem is really with the retinal afterimages and terminal blindness:--)!

Its GREAT!!! to see your face on here for even one hello.

We have came up with a new way of protecting ourselves, its the latest in hunting attire, its not much like Realtree cammo but with the Muzzle blast from the Cannern :-laf , well as you can see a hunter needs a different type of PROTECTION!!! The mask comes with optional heads up display for better long range performance. ;)

:-laf It's great you when you guys get off your meds!! :D

BIG,

Just my thoughts, but any of those bullets work well. I'm partial to the Nosler Partitions, myself. Killed a lot of game with 'em, even through heavy timber and brush. I've never shot them in the . 338 at game, myself. Seen a lot of elk shot with them, though, through a . 338 Lapua.

I do have some nice looking . 338 300gr Accubond bullets I'm dying to try... . Just not time, yet. The Accubonds in the . 308 cal have been very good. I shot several hogs with the 180grs in a 300 WSSM, and it works very well, and my cousin has shot several deer, coyotes, and countless hogs with his, using the same.

The Swift bullets are very inconsistent in my experience, and after the way they've treated me, they can take a short leap off a long cliff.....

The Barnes Triple shock just never would group as well as I like... . but I like the design of. They worked good on coyotes and a cow I had to shoot, in the 130gr . 277. The 7mms have never been used on game... . All copper fouled really bad when the loads were hot, though. I never could get them to shoot very good, so they got shelved on the "barrel break-in and fireforming bullets" shelf..... :cool

HH thanks for your thoughts, I talked with G man and I think for at least this year im going to stick with what I know works and works well, I hope to get some bench time and cook up a new batch of fodder, I like to change ever so often just for the sake of change.

BTW I have lots of . 338 bullets, Hornady, Nosler mostly, that I will never use; also . 338 win brass. . . I am mostly using 7mm now since my eye doc about 20 yr ago said recoil probably wouldnt hurt my retinas unless I shot something big like a . 378 Wby. Oops, I was shooting a . 338-378 and a . 338 mag. . . I only have one . 338 left, NIB . 338 Win 70 limited production super grade from 1990. Maybe I should stay away from my model 600 . 350 mag too, grrr.
