THunder In Muncie Question

Here's a question for some of you more experienced "bombers" :

I installed a set of the PW injectors in the 92 about a year ago. They provided a mild gain in power with no noticeable drop in MPG but also noticeable smoke on acceleration from a stop. These injectors had (I think) 5 holes, body # 9744.

I now have a set of Bully Dog 50 hp (industrial) injectors for a 93 truck. I have'nt installed them yet--- thinking I might stay with PWs if the Bully Dogs smoke or lose MPG. These injectors have a body # 9350, tip # 9351 with 4 holes, @ 245 bar.

Has anyone had a chance to run both of these on the same truck for comparison---power, smoke, etc ?

For you guys running the Bully Dog 50 hp, what kind of smoke do you see? Any difference in MPG ?

It seems like more holes would make for a better spray pattern, but maybe thats not a big factor.

Can anyone tell me what the body numbers mean or where to look up information.

Thanks in advance,

K.

INJECTORS

It would seem more holes WOULD make a finer spray, all else being equal. But that is seldom the case. You have to account for spray angle and hole placement, pop pressure, piston bowl designs, compresion ratio, etc. I had a set of EDMs that had 8 holes, and you could hardly see them under a magnifying glass, they were so small. But they flowed the fuel, buddy. 2nd gear boost went from about 22psi to 35; pegged the gauge in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Injectors were the only changes made. Things are not always as they seem.

Sorry, cant help you with a comparison. But, I can tell you the PWs flow real close to stock for a nonIC, and EC Jay gained a few psi with the Bully Dogs in his early 91.

cdrider,

After I installed the PW's in my 92 I noticed some improvement in performance. The big difference came when I had Piers set the timing to 1. 4 and increase the rpm to 2900. Stock the truck put out 157 RWHP but after the above changes the truck put out 220 RWHP.

I know if I turn up the fuel the truck would probably be in the 250 -275 range.

As far as mpg that is strictly related to the right foot. In fact the mileage on my truck improved approx. 1- 2 mpg. The problem is if we have the power we tend to use it.

Smoke is not a problem on my truck unless I really step on it.

I would think that the PW's with the 5 holes would smoke less than the Bullydog's with 4 holes.

I am running the Bully Dog + 50s... but they are closer to + 25 on my non I/C 91.

Like Al said... mileage is directly proportional to the weight of your right foot.

The truck runs smoother and pulls harder in the low to mid range than it did with the stock injectors.

I get absolutely no idle smoke, and I get a little smoke when I nail it moderatlely to hard up thru about 1700 rpm... that smoke is "tunable" I think... . but I'm working on a turbo mod that I hope will clean that up a bit.

Hope this helps.

Jay
