Bully Dog is coming out with step 5 injectors. Has anyone heard of their HP claims ? I just found out on Friday and am waiting for a email request I sent then. I didn't see any news of them on their site. Also wondering how bad the smoke will be. I hear the step fours are real smoke stacks. Anyone using the step fours care to respond ?

Mucho Smoke

I would caution folks do to the smoke. Can't speak specifically to the V's, but I've had some experience with the IV's. I would say the IV's were a track only item. Bully Dog cautions regarding the smoke as well.

WOW... is this the same HVAC that used to tell everyone to go straight to DD3s? Buy a PE and get it reprogrammed with a HOT#3??? OK... someone must have stolen his login and password!

I have a friend that runs these stage4 injectors... says hardly any more smoke than his DD3s til he turns his box on.

Another friend of mine has DD2s... they smoke more than some DD3s.

I will email the and see if he would like to post and tell about his stage4 injectors.

Smoke can be found with many injectors and other reasons... ie: low boost, fueling enhancements, etc, etc. Read and choose wisely!

I have the Bully Dog III's with an EZ and a HOT PE. I usually run with the PE off, and I still get quite a bit of smoke. But I'll tell you what, When I turn the PE on in the HOT 3, LOOK OUT! The cars behind me actually stop because they can't see where they are going and/or think the "White Obsession" has just BLOWN UP! :D

I get a good laugh out of it! Not to mention the drivers in the fast lane on the interstate that drive 55mph in a 70. I just let the boost drop, drop the hammer, hold it back a bit with the brake and HOLY SMOKES. LOL.  :D

Pictures

Anybody got some pictures of smokin' trucks?

um,, One more thing,,,,

Can I put DD3's + on my truck,, and still leave the the injector pump, and computer stock for a few months?

Thanks for any comments. .

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.

Nowel and Rob, I have the BD 3's now, not bad, even with the EZ set at the "most aggressive" jumper. Hammer it with low boost=thick lucious clouds of black. Slow start and build boost in relationship to fuel, very little smoke.

Bob, been there and done that, alot of fun with the thump, thump cars, if you know what I mean :D

Colin, I WILL NEVER HAVE ENOUGH, LOL

BigSaint... thanks for verifying the smoke issue... we can all smoke when we want to... or not. Depends on how you set things up!

MCummings... of course! Evan Beck ran some old DD3s in his ram... (still installed) with nothing else for a long time. You will need a boost module tho... DD does not like to sell the bigger injectors without one.

Anybody know an approx. price for the BD4 or BD5 injectors? HVAC, do you sell them?

Rob, I decided to give the step 5's a try. The price I was quoted was $496. 00, with the return of my step 3's. They were going to revamp my OEM injectors to step 4 for $200. 00, I believe, unless that price also included the return of the step 3's. I'm unsure on that one. Give 'em a call if your interested. Looks like it will be time to switch the jumper on the EZ now.

step 4 user

Hey ... just got your E-mail Rob and figure I would chime in since I had the DD stage 3's (A)'s before I bought the step 4's from Bully Dog. There isnt a real difference in smoke between the 2 if you ask me. Rob is right... I can take off with no smoke at all or drive it like a raped ape with the p-max on and its smoke city. This is coming from a guy who loves smoke. No offense to the DD guys but if it wasnt for Bully Dog. . there stage 3's would still be 7 bills. :rolleyes:Scott I guess i left to early at the NJ dyno to get tallkin to ya ... we coulda rapped about this...

How big are they gonna hog these holes out now? Is the stock injector pump gonna be able to keep up proper pressure to keep a proper spray pattern going?

DD doesn't even sell their stage 4 unless you also get the injector pump mod, right?

MikeR... I checked their site, and it doesn't say that... but it does say that the "supermentals" are in-house installation, ONLY! Maybe they do make some type of pump change?? But I could not find anything on it.

John C. , I'm sorry I missed talking with you on this subject at the dyno run. I did call Bully Dog today and spoke very briefly on the subject. This is experimental, in my mind, as they have only made one set so far, guess mine will be the second set. I had a list of questions to ask but got side tracked by my daughter tugging at my coat strings. From the short conversation I had, they believe they will be streetable, as long as you have boost when you add fuel, otherwise, same as most showerheads, they will smoke until the boost is up. I'm going to upgrade my fuel lines before they go in and loose the banjo's entirely, then I'll move the jumper on the EZ and give them a try.

Rob and Mike, I believe that DD will only sell their supermentals through authorized installation centers as they are concerned for their customers well being. We discussed this awhile back and DD replied in the terms that they do not want unskilled BOMBers destroying their vehicles. I think they are more concerned that you have the proper upgrades, i. e. , HX40, aftermarket clutch/transmission work, gauges, than doing the pump mods. I maybe incorrect, but that was my take on their stand. Joe D. could probably better elaborate, if he reads this topic.

Chris, the tech I spoke with stated that they saw a 200 HP increase, with fuel line mods. I know, I know, what type of CTD and what other Mods ? I didn't get to ask, as stated above. Seems a bit high to me, but I don't know if that 's flywheel/or rear wheel numbers. I'm sorry that I don't have more to add, I will try to call again when I'm less encumbered by a 4 YOA . I would be happy with a 40 HP increase over the step 3's. Probably won't even see that with the ETH, but I'll try to get in a dyno run a. s. a. p.

They are great !!!!!

Well, I took the ride to A. W. D. today and spent the better part of the day with Chris and Mike. The BullyDog 'step' five injectors are in. Here's my first impressions... .

Power increase: Huge, over the BD step 3's I was running. Of course, this is a seat O pants meter evaluation, but I have much quicker turbo spool up and hit redline in the first 4 gears in no time. Best way to equate the power is the felt difference between a stock ETH and one with a EZ box, that is the gain I feel with the five's.

Egt. s (pre-turbo): With the step 3's, I would normally cruise at 55 and see about 500-550, now I see around 550-600. Didn't have the time for WOT runs up the local grades, but I will post these numbers once I get them. I did notice that it is taking about one extra minute to reach the 300 F mark after a normal ride.

Smoothness under acceleration: very smooth, no misses, stumbles, etc.

Smoothness at idle: Fairly smooth, very similar to the 3's. Most of the time idle is consistant, at varying times, I hear a sound, best described as a "romp, romp, romp" that lasts for several seconds then fades back to a steady idle. I had the same idling experience with the 3's, only I have it somewhat more with the 5's and just chalk it up to biga$$ showerheads. Most importantly, acceleration is smooth through out the gear range.

Smoke: Yes, they smoke, but really not as bad as I thought they would. With the 3's (and any big injector I would hazard a guess at) you will see copious amounts of smoke under hard throttle with little boost. These are no different. I left my Ez box on the most aggressive setting, as I was running it with the 3's, for comparision, it's staying there. I can still do a slow start, accelerating through the gears, with not much more than a wisp of smoke. Hard throttle under low boost gains a somewhat 'thicker' cloud of black.

More testing and a dyno run is now in order, but, overall, I am impressed with the job that BullyDog did on these new injectors, as I was with the 3's.

Now, before anyone, especially the newer members here, gets the idea that they are the ticket for them, consider this:

1) NOWAY are these good for towing, I'm sure the egt. s will be through the roof on hard grades with heavy loads.

2) Take a look at my sig. line and see what I have done, turbo, air, fuel line upgrades, clutch, etc. Not bragging in any way, shape or form, but these, as would most of the larger injectors, probably destroy a stock truck in no time. Think about what you use your truck for and decide appropriately. Once I get my 5th wheel, these will have to go and smaller injectors will be needed.

3) If black smoke offends you, stay away from anything above stage 2's, these will smoke like a steam train running on coal if your not wise as to your go pedal usage with low boost.

4) If you are running with stage 3 or higher injectors and looking for more, give them a try, especially if you are running BullyDog injectors now. They were fair, price wise ($500. 00 with the return of my step 3's to them).

BigSaint, Thank you for the update. That's exactly the kind of product post that keeps me logging on here everyday. Very informative. Your advice about the big injectors and towing are spot-on from my experience. Have Big Fun. :D

I just ordered step 4s... they pretty much talked me out of the step 5s. Now I'm wondering...

The more I think...

the more I feel that I don't want to go to the Stage III's, especially since I want the power for towing. Other than the clutch, am I looking at other problems that may need to be addressed? Bigsaint, did you do any towing with your Stage III's? Anybody? TIA

John

Scott,

You should've offered those to some fellow TDR member's for a fair price, and you would've probably still come out ahead of $500 + trade.

TopFuel, thanks !!!!

Vaman, I can tell you, I was real skeptical before they went in. My original intent was to go with the 4's and was even a bit concerned with those. Well, all of my concerns were washed away after a short post install ride and I can't even wipe the smile off my face now, these things rock, but they really are not so snotty that they are not streetable, IMHO.

John B. , nope, never tried to tow anything with the 3's, but would take an educated guess that they would be on the ragged edge of high egt's with heavy loads in low elevations and too much in the higher elevations.

TXRam, I would have had to sell them for $500. 00, to break even. You can purchase BullyDog step 3's for $600. 00, minus the core charge. For $100. 00, I think most would just go with a new set, I know that I would. I am all for helping out other TDR members, but the arrangement I made with Mike at A. W. D. and BullyDog just made it possible for me to get what I wanted w/o an initial out lay of an extra $500. 00. In fact, keep an eye on the Products/Accessories page for a few items that I plan to GIVE away to a good/homes of any TDR member(s) that ask first, coming in a week or so.
