They are great !!!!!
Well, I took the ride to A. W. D. today and spent the better part of the day with Chris and Mike. The BullyDog 'step' five injectors are in. Here's my first impressions... .
Power increase: Huge, over the BD step 3's I was running. Of course, this is a seat O pants meter evaluation, but I have much quicker turbo spool up and hit redline in the first 4 gears in no time. Best way to equate the power is the felt difference between a stock ETH and one with a EZ box, that is the gain I feel with the five's.
Egt. s (pre-turbo): With the step 3's, I would normally cruise at 55 and see about 500-550, now I see around 550-600. Didn't have the time for WOT runs up the local grades, but I will post these numbers once I get them. I did notice that it is taking about one extra minute to reach the 300 F mark after a normal ride.
Smoothness under acceleration: very smooth, no misses, stumbles, etc.
Smoothness at idle: Fairly smooth, very similar to the 3's. Most of the time idle is consistant, at varying times, I hear a sound, best described as a "romp, romp, romp" that lasts for several seconds then fades back to a steady idle. I had the same idling experience with the 3's, only I have it somewhat more with the 5's and just chalk it up to biga$$ showerheads. Most importantly, acceleration is smooth through out the gear range.
Smoke: Yes, they smoke, but really not as bad as I thought they would. With the 3's (and any big injector I would hazard a guess at) you will see copious amounts of smoke under hard throttle with little boost. These are no different. I left my Ez box on the most aggressive setting, as I was running it with the 3's, for comparision, it's staying there. I can still do a slow start, accelerating through the gears, with not much more than a wisp of smoke. Hard throttle under low boost gains a somewhat 'thicker' cloud of black.
More testing and a dyno run is now in order, but, overall, I am impressed with the job that BullyDog did on these new injectors, as I was with the 3's.
Now, before anyone, especially the newer members here, gets the idea that they are the ticket for them, consider this:
1) NOWAY are these good for towing, I'm sure the egt. s will be through the roof on hard grades with heavy loads.
2) Take a look at my sig. line and see what I have done, turbo, air, fuel line upgrades, clutch, etc. Not bragging in any way, shape or form, but these, as would most of the larger injectors, probably destroy a stock truck in no time. Think about what you use your truck for and decide appropriately. Once I get my 5th wheel, these will have to go and smaller injectors will be needed.
3) If black smoke offends you, stay away from anything above stage 2's, these will smoke like a steam train running on coal if your not wise as to your go pedal usage with low boost.
4) If you are running with stage 3 or higher injectors and looking for more, give them a try, especially if you are running BullyDog injectors now. They were fair, price wise ($500. 00 with the return of my step 3's to them).
