Bushwacker fender flare install question

Hey Gang just got some Fender Flares from bushwacker and I am getting ready to install them this weekend. And I have a few questions.



What is the best way to remove the Cummins engine badge as well as the double sided tape or what ever is used to apply them? and what is the best way to re-apply them?



Also I have heard that these fender flares have a nasty habit of scratching up the fenders. What is the best way to minimize the amount of scratching? The kit comes with a rubber gasket that you put on the upper lip of the flare, is there a better method to reduce scratches?

You are right about the scratching. They messed up my trucks paint in a bad way, all the way down to the metal even with the rubber around the edges. The only way I can think of to prevent it would be to not put them on. . Since they are not fastened to the fender, they will gather dirt and rub the paint just like sand paper.



The way I got the badges off was by using fishing line in the same manner as you would dental floss. . I then bought some adhesive remover and took the excess tape off. To reapply them, just get some two sided tape and use a razor to trim strips to cover the back of the badge.

Wow I would really hate to not put them on. Could I put some painters tape or something behind where the flare would go? Or maybe some plastic from a new delivery? Just something as an added protection?

You can try some 3M body tape. That stuff is strong, and has a thin foam layer between the adhesive sides. If the flare doesn't move around at all, this stuff should hold it in place. It's available in most auto parts stores. You could use it to re-attach your Cummins logo too.

I did as Spooled-up suggested to you. You may have to go to a auto paint supply store to get it. I used the 1/4 inch wide tape. It comes in two thicknesses. Get the thicker stuff. My flares are Dodge Power Wagon factory. No movement now. I attached the tape to the rubber molding on the edge of the flares.

Yeah totally I didn't even see them. Could I get this at a Home Depot or Lowes? sounds like something I could get there.



Nelsson, Did you get your F. F painted? I thought about getting mine painted but thought it wouldn't really be worth it since they are pretty much already black.

I've seen the 3M tape at most auto parts stores. It is about 1/4 to 3/8ths thick and comes in a roll about 4" in diameter. Doubt you'd find it at a home center.

when i put mine on they fit very tight against the fender. and i just put the suppled rubber stripping around them and i had no problemswith scratching

My bushwakers also fit very tight and have had no problems on any of my rigs. Make shure they are tight the first time and re-check every so often. You can screw them on if you want. They are sold as no drill but you can put a few screws in if you want. The clips for the top rear are dumb but work if you put them on right. My local 4x4 shop recomends puting a real small bead of clear silicone on the top edge to help with the dirt getting down between the crack. I did not do it, but he said it helps if you plan on taking them off for any reason. My $0. 02

my buddy got his painted... think it was around $300 to match his truck paint... he had the BW Extendeflares. I thought about doing it as well but figure they would chip just like I am trying to keep my tin from chipping and did not want to pay $350 every year or two to have them taken off and repainted... ... . so black for me to match my westin steps, door handles and the factory door strips ... .



I am going to do the 3m tape thing on mine... should be here this week.

No paint. The flares match the door handle, front and rear bumper plastic, and factory bed side rail covers. also the rear wheel liners. going with a black Defiant or Drc light bar soon. 35 toyo Mt when they come available, and drc centerline or center line bullet 8. 5x17 wheels . Maybe Power Steps too. I am 6'7" and dont need them but the better half and old folks do. Afe stage 2 comes tomorrow. This truck has a Kore Chase suspension as well. The tires are pro comp extreme at's 305 65 70 I think.

It is the same truck. In December, in Santa Fe they were not installed yet. I have taught photography for 33 years and photoshop for 8 years. . Anyway they are on the truck now and it was easy to put the flares into the winter picture from a recent shot taken in my driveway. That is how the truck looks now. Just liked the snow pic better than the one with my carport in the background. Greg put that up on the Kore site because it is a good shot of the Mega.

Well that is an awesome truck. I just ordered one just like it and i cant wait. I am gonna put the HD leveling kit on mine also. How do you like the leveling kit? Was it hard to put on?

I'm definetely gonna get that 3m automotive tape Spooled-up. It sounds like a real good idea. I think that and the rubber gasket should do pretty well together!!



I'll post pics of how the truck looks with the flares and the cool dools this weekend once they both get installed!!

The picture on the Kore site is on the HD leveling kit page. However, I have the original Chase suspension. You know the expensive one with the cool shock towers and 7100 bilsteins. I had it installed the first week i had the truck. 6000 miles now and it drives like a 1 ton Mercedes. I smile every time I drive it. I trust it will stay together.

My last truck was a 2000 F350 limited edition lariat V10 dually (11-14 mpg). A great truck for 6 years. Changed one battery and 2 sets of tires. The Mega is so far TERRIFIC. FYI - 15mpg in town 17 hwy at 70 and I am having to much fun with the skinny peddle. I do the math.

need to take a razor blade bend the ends up a little bit then work it around the C part and the turbo diesel you can't use the blade to totally take it all off, work to a point when you can get it loose enough then twist off. For the 3M tape, 3M makes a wheel that takes it off. You can use a drill be careful not to burn the paint.
