Could anyone point me in the direction of where to get a the mating flange on the front transfer case to the driveshaft? (somewhere someone preferrably has experience with... )

Son didn't listen close enough about taking it out of 4wd when on dry surfaces... Also, was that the weakest point? Will I be looking at rebuilding the transfer case in the near future?

Since there was slop in the u-joints, (prolly 196k worth) I am hoping the binding started there and was the weakest link. I know I am dreaming a little but eh' a guy can dream, right? :)

Long live these ole' 12'ers!

I usually use Blumenthal's, as they have the most parts of anyone in stock for anything diesel powered. Best place to get NV parts, I think. The Blumenthal Companies - Transmissions, Engines, Drivelines and all Powertrain Products 1800-262-9557

I've used these guys several times on remans, certainly know their stuff, and can build whatever you need if you have a custom app. They have quite a few parts: Transfer case express: Transfer Case Express, Inc. · New, rebuilt transfer cases ( transfercase ). Lowest prices. In California, world-wide delivery 1-800-683-7623

Scheid Diesel: These guys are good, they know what they are doing, IMO. Prices and service are pretty high, though. I used to be a dealer for them. They have a shop in Effingham, IL. They also race and mud bog, so they tear up plenty on the old Dodges, so they know where to get parts and how to fix 'em. Scheid Diesel Service Co. , Inc. Indiana & Illinois Diesel Performance Products Effingham store: 800-669-1934

If all else fails, shoot me the part number and I'll call New Process and get you one. But they'll be high, just so you know.

Thanks everyone. I will be calling B's this morning as their site seems to be down.

Any thoughts or experience on the potential for the transfer case to be toasted or need a rebuild soon? I am hoping that the joints were all loose enough that the binding forces just obliterated them and not the chain and gears.

Wishful thinking?

Welllllll, Bueller has left the building..... in his Dad's car..... through the window.....

Without looking at it, it's hard to say. Chances are good that it just snapped the front yoke... . Was the nut still on it and tight? If it was, it shouldn't have torn up much. There is always that possibility, though. Those yokes are tough, but if it gave and didn't bend the output shaft or crack the case, you should be good. I'd run it through it's gears and ranges, and see how it acts. If it seems ok, try it. I'd hate to replace it if it didn't need it. Watch for leaks and leaks from cracks in the case housing itself.

Good luck,

The yokes among almost all the Dodge 4wd trucks are the same as long as the series of joint is the same.

I've seen 1/2 tons with the same yoke/front driveline that my 3/4 ton has.

I got my last one at a local driveline supply place, they had it in stock. Common replacement when the centering ball goes out and takes out the stud.

Just took mine out tonight. I have lost two front driveshafts at about 100K miles each. This time the front universal on the double cardan joint failed. I used a 5/8" gearwrench. Put it in 2wd, turn it until you can access one bolt, put it in 4wd to lock it and remove the bolt. repeat three more times.
