Nothing wrong with a dually as a daily driver... I had one, and a standard at that, that was my daily driver in the DC area. I parked it downtown DC all the time, you learn your clearances and work them.

I'd drive my 17 5500 in a heartbeat as a daily driver, and its a full foot longer than a dually 3500.

You want a dually, you go get it, HUA!

Please post pics of new ride!

Christmas Cheers, Ron

@Cummins12V98
I just checked online inventory at Dillon, they have "0" 3500's in Boise. Maybe they have some inventory they aren't advertising online... I've driven through the Dillon lot that is less than 5 miles from my house and same thing. Several 2500's. I did send my specs to the online person at Dillon's, who emailed me a few days ago, but nothing back yet. The dealership at Petersons in Nampa, has more 2500 and 3500 in the lot, than anywhere else I've seen locally.
Thanks for the Tip anyhow.

I checked Dave Smith too. I've read in the threads here in TDR that they were sold some time ago, and the screaming cheap deals are not as prevalent.
Also a good tip, thanks for the reminder.

Pics when I get it home for sure.

Wait for a 21. Cummins went back to a CP3, which is kinda a slap in the face to 19-20 owners...but good for 21+ owners.

Ram isn’t having as bad of luck with the CP4 as Ford/GM but it’s still not as reliable as the CP3.

Thanks for the tip, I just did a search on the TDR and found the information.
Maybe, I'll continue the search a little longer..

Good pick up. I didn't think of that.

There's gotta be a reason they went back to the CP3.

The end of December has historically been the best for vehicle sales at FCA. The dealers have wholesale incentive objectives to hit, and sometimes it comes down to the last couple days to make the number. It can be a substantial amount, so they will give away a few units at the end of the month if they are close because the payout is retroactive to unit one for the incentive period. Incentives are also regional as mentioned so it is difficult to compare different areas of the country.
When I purchased the 2014 I financed $5k with Chrysler Financial for an additional $500 discount instead of all cash. I made four payments and then paid off the loan amount.

We bought ours from Dave Smith, financed it for the extra rebate, made sure there was no prepayment penalty, and paid it off when we got home. Worked out fine. Bought December 2013, took it home first week January 2014. Good time to buy. They are trying to get their yearly quota for their factory rebates too.

@sag2 Does this (December) include orders for 2021's as well or does only the vehicle delivery date count for dealer objectives / numbers?

My wife worked the F&I desk years ago. Some simple tips:
  • Buy late in the month, especially December.
  • Know what the vehicle costs before you step on the lot.
  • Don't even look at the window sticker price, start negotiating at the invoice price. That is the only time you will get a good deal.
  • First negotiate the final price of the vehicle. Nothing else, not payments, cash, trade. Nothing.
  • If you are planning on trading a vehicle in and the dealer asks if you have a trade, LIE and say no you do not. Back to the previous rule. The dealer and anyone working for them, will start lying to you the moment they say Hello. "Changing" your mind about a trade is nothing.
  • Once you have the price negotiated to where you want it, based off of the invoice cost, you can tell them you changed your mind and want to talk about trading your vehicle.
  • Do not be afraid to get up and walk out! 99% of the time, they will be asking you to come back in before you close your car door.
  • Don't be a dick. Be polite and firm.
When I purchased my 02, I did all of these things and walked out when they wouldn't give me $15k for my Dakota trade. The sales rep ran to my truck as I was driving away and offered $13k, I said thanks and drove away. He called my cell 5 minutes later, $14k, nope. I pulled into my driveway, phone rings, $15k please come back. Done deal.

My wife gives 15 minutes to the Sales Rep when she walks onto the lot, which usually brings the Sales Manager into the mix. At a Toyota dealer, they didn't want to give her the amount she wanted for her trade. She told the guy $22k or we walk. He said we can't do that. She said you have ten minutes, go talk to your boss. He leaves, comes back and says they can go to $21k. I AM NOT KIDDING! She looks at him and I quote, "You have five minutes to get this right, I now want $23k for my trade." The sales guy looks at her and says "Wait you said $22K" and she replies "You are wasting my time, now I want $23, go talk to your boss." He left and came back with $22k, she said "Done."

The Dealer can only discount so much. There's not as much profit in a new vehicle as you think.

It's the Factory that gives the real discounts/incentives.

And they change with every new quarter. Jan 1 will have new ones.

Should you wait? No clue. Heck, they might even reduce the incentives/discounts. It's been known to happen. It might cost more to wait until the new quarter. And if it's one thing the manufacturers can keep secret, it's the new incentives.

They keep those secrets better than the FBI keeps theirs

I visited the Local dealer this morning (Dec 21) and had a look under the hood of a 2021 SO 2500 just to see if the CP3 was really there.
It was, and I've posted pictures in another thread. I looks like I'll be spending some quality time on the "build a truck" site to get the features I think I can't live without.
Thanks again for the tips, hints and ideas!

I have been ordering all my vehicles since 1996. I get what I want and nothing extra. You can easily get invoice minus hold back minus incentives/rebates that are in effect when the truck comes in. FCA financing requires you to make 3 payments before paying it off to keep your 'finance incentive'. Also check any affiliations you may have further discounts, USAA/ freight liner etc.

Thanks for the tips on the affiliations. I'm USAA member, but not retired military. No discounts for DAV for folks that are less than 100% disabled.
Their current favorite people are folks with FFA members, realtors(?), retired military, FCA finance, there was one other, that I didn't qualify for. I'll ask about the USAA.
The dealer thinks I'll have a VIN by the 11th of January...

Send your specs to Dennis Dillon and Dave Smith both in Idaho.

I bought my truck in late October 2018 from Dave Smith. I flew into Spokane and they picked my up the next morning and drove me up. The only benefit to them is the number of trucks on the lot. I was very specific on the options I wanted and they had two of them.

The two issues I had with the dealership was:

1. The amount of time to make the deal and sign the paperwork was ridiculous. I stepped onto the lot at 7:30 am and didn't leave until 4 pm and then had to start an 18 hr drive home. Hardly any other customers around either.

2. The finance manager was an arse. I've never seen someone get so pissed-off when I chose not to get the extended warranty. He went from being a nice guy chatting with me about our mutual love to hunt, but when I declined his 15 different warranty offers he changed!

#2 happened to me - exactly the same in denver....i guess the " gravy " to them is the selling of extended warranties? cheers!
