I have the full flow filter in the stock location and have adapted the BMK12 dual unit ( Amsoil ) to my system , a single filter is the norm . Gary I hope you don't think mine to shadetree I tried to make it look as good as possible :D :D

Looks good Peter certainly all you could ask for in a dual setup -

Wayne, the hose fitting at the oil fill merely unscrews and removes completely - as easy as removing the oil filler cap inself, and since it's very low pressure and volume, no oil leak problems... Yes, the oil return line is secured to the oil return from the turbo - you can see the red tie-wraps holding it in place.

Now, I gotta drive it a while to see how sturdy it is - I'm slightly concerned about the ability of the top plastic battery hold-down to take the added stress and vibration of the filter assembly - we'll see... One thing I like about this arrangement is that simply removing the battery bolt allows the rest of the added Frantz to be merely swung outta the way if I need more room to change the stock filter...

Gary,

This is a picture of a oil fill cap that has been modified to accept a "swivel" fitting for the return line. The center portion of the fitting swivels, which allows the cap to be turned without turning the hose.

I removed my full flow filter, stuffed the base with a rag and drilled and tapped the base on the upstream side of the full flow filter to get the oil pressure. I made a 90 degree bulkhead fitting to go into the plastic oil fill spout on the flat face straight ahead of the fuel pump shaft. I bent 3/8 copper tubing for the majority of the runs and used 3/8 transmission oil line to flex to the bypass filter base. I can take the oil fill cap off and check the flow. Craig

Copper tubing hardens very easily with vibration and will break. I found out the hard way with a fuel line and that was a gasser that doesnt shake like a Cummins, luckily it was a street rod with no hood and I saw it right away and shut it down with no fire.

Stock and Dual by pass? How Pzicha?

Pzicha

How did you modify the amsoil or the stock mount so that you can continue to run a stock filter with the dual by pass? That means you have 3 filters? Or am I just not following? let me know cause I have a case of Stratopore in the basement with plannes to switch to amsoil dual by pass in about a month. WOuld be great to have the best of both worlds with stock and dual by pass.

I'm considering adding a bi-pass filtration system to my truck. Not sure which setup to go with yet. I like the idea of single remote filter instead of relocating both filters but I don't like the return line going into the oil fill cap from what I've seen so far. Keep those pics and ideas coming guys.

JCYRBOK ... ... . Here are some pics hope this helps . this setup is like the single bypass on amsoilmans truck . the oil filter mount has an aux oil output next to the turbo oil output , you can get your supply there and on mine the return goes into the valve cover . I could have went with the single unit but overkill is my middle name   Two is a good thing , like the upper half of a hooters waitress

Oo. Oo.

ANOTHER ANGLE The reason I went with this setup and not the fullflow and the bypass together ( BMK15 ) with an adaptor to the oil filter mount and 6 feet of hose there and back was the oil pressure delay at start up , With the full flow in the stock location that will not be an issue :p :p

Pzicha I have more questions?

That looks like an excellant set up. Did the hoses that came with the Amsoil system fit the aux oil outlet ontop of the stock filter mount or did you have to use some sort of addaptor? Also I'm not to keen on drilling the value cover, would this work with the modified filler hole cap? (particularly because it seems like a PITA to get off)

And to just get this straight. U are running dual by pass ( two filters) and stock mounted filter for a total of 3 oil filters on your truck? U aint kidding about overkill, but I agree. If two is great three must be excellant!.

How easy was all this to put together? This is definately something I would consider. My main goal with everything that I do to my truck is longevity and reliablity.

Thanks

The bypass filter threads are the same as the threads on the Cummins filter. You can buy the threaded adapter from Amsoil that the filter screws on and replace the full flow nipple with the bypass nipple and use stock Fleetguard filters for the full flow on the dual bypass system.

Wayne - I've read about the swivel fittings before - thanks for the pic - dunno where I would find one locally, and after all, the only time I need remove the filer cap is when I change oil - once or twice a year - about the same number of times I need to unscrew that pesky crankcase drain plug... :p ;) :D

I talked to Amsoil and they said that the threads are different on the Fleetgaurd filter and that it wouldnt work on their set up. I had hoped that the threads were the same so I could use the Fleetgaurd filters that are less in cost.

Or are u talking about something completely different?

It would be great if that had an adapter that screwed onto the stock oil filter mount like the dual by pass adapter but had a nipple on the bottom as well to add a filter directely to the adapter. Seem like it would make things easier. If anyone can come up with that I get 1/2 profit for the idea. LMAO.

Thanks

There are 2 different size filter nipples on the Amsoil dual bypass filter head. The bypass filter has the same size threads as the Cummins stock oil filter and the Amsoil full flow filter is the same size as the Ford type filter Fram# PH8A. The nipples unscrew from the filter head. If you get a bypass nipple from Amsoil you can unscrew the full flow side nipple and replace it with another bypass size nipple and the stock Cummins filter will work on the full flow side of the Amsoil filter head. Before I installed my setup I screwed the Cummins filter on the bypass side just to see if it would work and it fits. If any body knows what the crossover part # is for a Ford filter of any brand to the Fleetguard filter it would be a big help. Then there would be no reason to change out the attaching nipples.

Yes two bypass and one full flow , the hoses did not come with the kit but the local johndeere dealer made them up for $25. 00 . the filter mount is a 1/8 npt fitting and the dual bypass the dealer matched up . The valve cover thing i'm going to correct later cause it is a pita to get off . Thats what happens when a good idea turns into a runaway . I think deezul is refuring to the BMK15 which is the full flow and the bypass together with an adaptor at the stock filter mount ( mine is the BMK12 ). I dont like that setup cause the oil leaves the block goes through 3 feet of hose to the filter and then back through 3 feet of hose to the block . lots of oil pressure delay at start up in cold weather
