Just got rid of my cat. Less smoke (not that it is a good thing), better throttle response. Not sure of the mpg yet. Sounds awesome. No drone.

You had better hang on to it if you already haven't gotten rid of it. It will be only a matter of time before there will be 50 state emmission testing of diesels.
I have read here on the forums that removal of the cat on the '04. 5-early '07's doesn't make much power difference. Hey... . It's your truck, do what you want to it.

Best thing to do is just gut the cat and re-install it. That way, it's there and they can see it.

From what I've heard, the testing can't tell the difference if the media is in the cat or not. It's just a smoke/snap test.

This is correct! I gutted mine and reinstalled. It needs to be on there to pass visual inspection.

In addition to what youve already noticed, check out how long it takes for your thermostat to open. It will take a significantly longer time to open. I didnt notice anything else IE better fuel economy etc.

The only difference I saw on mine was that the EGT's cool quicker when idling without it. . Otherwise nothing.

I removed mine because I didn't want to soot it up with the Smarty Jr.

How can I check that. I saved the cat for that purpose in the future.

If you watch your temp gauge as you drive as the coolant temp approaches normal, youll see it go past it's normal position. When it makes a turn down (cooler) thats when she's opening.
