unless you can find a solid core, spring wrapped cable. I found a supplier uo here and the price is about $20 CD for an 8' cable w/knob. I plan on putting it in for a manual CAD.

all choke cables are solid core and spring wrapped as they have to push and pull... throttle cables can be braided/twisted wire because they just have to pull...

but just looking at the choke cable on my hot rod, I wouldn't want to use it to push that fuel solenoid. rather have something designed for the job.

Got those pics yet??

Hey charlan,

you got those pics of your cutsom shutoff cable yet. I would like to get a good look at it so I can get an idea of how you fabbed it up, cuz my parts are on the way.

The Green truck has had that BOMB for over 5 years now. It's a PTO cable. The bracket at the AFC cover isn't that pretty, but it works great.

ONCE I didn't get it pulled all the way up. Then truck wouldn't REV. I was pulling over to raise the hood--when I figgered it out. So be sure you get full articulation of the shutoff valve with the cable.

Be careful taking your keys out while the truck is running. I dont know about these trucks, but on our fire apparatus, you need to kill the fuel first. With the engine running and the key off, would the alternator still be charging with no power being drawn because of the key off?

I could be way off base on this, but we were always told, fuel shutdown first, then switch off. I'm gonna put in a cable too if and when my solenoids go bad.

Chris

On some of our fire apparatus, if the battery switch is turned off while the engine is still running, the alternator will go unregulated. Headlight bulbs will look like flashbulbs! Radios make smoke!

No problem on a 95.

I've left my apparatus running no key with no problems.

More often I leave the key on with fuel shut down--and I worry about burning up the points. :-laf

Yeah, I used to drive stuff that old--I'm not that old. ;)
