Firestik 48" mounted in the center of the forward bed rail. :D Sort of like an extended middle finger. :p Seems to have it's best reception when the back of the truck is aimed towards Washington state. :D

not a big deal!!!!! Oo. Oo. :D :D

With the money these trucks run... ... He!! yes I'm afraid to drill a hole in my roof. :D :D :D

Firestick...don't leave home without it.

Firestick mounted on a Stainless Steel Under Hood Mount on the driver's side.

Has anyone out there bought and fitted the FM/AM Lookalike Firestick attenna for the other side, to give a "balanced" look, one CB, other FM/AM? Any pictures? How did you conceal the original antenna hole in the bodywork... ... ??

Pay Attention..........

Wilson 5000... ... thru the roof

Galaxy 44... ..... peaked, tuned, and a bell or two

Texas Star 350.....

Enuff Said. . :-laf

Any old 5/8-wave antenna will do... . just hook it up to an automatic tuner... . it's always the perfect electrical (wavelength) and physical length!

hey looked at your pics and i couldn't find no antennaes or tin cans. are they the new invisible ones?

102" whip, as high as possible, with as much metal under it for a ground plane is as good as youll ever do.

Anything with a coil, like a firestik, or whatever is losing power in the coil.

Argue all you want, but facts is facts, unless you can put a beam on your truck, the whip is best.

Now you could experiment with mounting it at the back which would make it radiate better to the front, and pointing the truck in the direction you want to talk, but youll lose efficiency to the rear.

So In the middle as high as possible is all around best. Of course youre gonna bend the ** out of it as soon as you go under a bridge, but thats not my problem. . heehee

Also you need a nice amp with about 16ea. 2SC2879 transistors to give you about 2000 watts out, just for blasting your signal out of a hole... (Did I say that?? naaaah)

isbpilot. where did you mount your 350? i've got a 400 but they are kind of big. also where are you pulling your power from? battery or where? thanks in advance. . p. s. i have a 4000 northstar to take care of the talk part.

Yes, the total effective RF output is split in two if you have twin antennae. But you also have twice the effective radiating area with dual antennae... . helps with RX and TX.

Both coaxial cables must be EXACTLY the same length and you should NOT coil the excess if there is any... .

Dual antennae should also be at least 8ft. apart to avoid them interfering with each others RF radiation pattern... . this distance increases with more power output.....

This is all old news to many folks... . but I'm trying to school the new ones... .

Goddard.............

I have a homemade rack unit on the hump in the floorboard. It consists of an old style bagphone on the bottom with the shelf over the top of it, the 350 is mounted on top of the shelf with the buttons facing the driver side, and my radio is mounted face up on the side of the shelf unit resting against the seat. Kinda hard to visualize and sounds wierd but it works good for now until I get time to rebuild everything and fix it better:D .

Power comes straight from the battery with a big fuse.

thanks for the info. thought about mounting mine under the seat but io don't know if it will fit. also wonder if would need a fan kit to cool it under there.

Reading my mind..........

I had thought about moving mine under the seat also, just not sure what the finished install will be until I get there. Somehow my projects change as they are going together.

I think under the drivers seat would be enough room, I just have to move my current air compressor/tank setup out of the way and under the truck where I plan on putting it.

If you run with the 400 on and talk for long periods of time, a fan might be a good idea. My little compressor gets pretty warm under there, not much cool air circulating.

So, how well do the antennas under the hood work? Seems they'd run into a lot of interference tryin' to get the signal out. :D :D :D

Anyone know of a good place to get a quality kicker (350-400 w) on the net? My little 250 is getting old and I'm not going to put any more into it.
