Algae in fuel, what does it look like?

Is nothing sacred?

The company I work for has had a F700 on order, spec'd. with the 8. 3 with an Allison for 2 or 3 months now. Today they were informed that the Cummins is unavailable because of EPA compliance problems. Could be a 6 month delay. They are looking at a Cat engine now. Don't know which that would be. Anyone else here of this? I thought the ISBs had already passed EPA.

The ISB is the 5. 9L and the ISC is the 8. 3L so they are different engines. If they are looking at the Cat motors it will probably be a 3116 (6. 6L), 3126 (7. 2L) or if there is room maybe a 3176 (10. 2L). All are good engines. Cat parts seem to cost a little more though.

They probably are on hold due to compliance issues. I didn't say problems because I'm not sure of the exact status, something to do with banking and trading emission credits. The good news is when they are released again,(assuming they are on hold) they may have a common rail system which is bound to be more reliable than the CAPS fuel system. Although the current CAPS pump is a pretty good pump in my opinion.

I don't know anything about the Cat engines, but they are probably just fine. (If they weren't Cummins wouldn't have to spend much in advertising)
