looks like I'm moving back to Ca probably mid year. Has the CAL-EPA started testing diesel P/U's yet?

What should I be aware of as far as mods go?

thanks in advance for any help.

Ed,

Now for the bad news:

Oct 22, 2007Bill signed by Gov Schwarzenegger

SUMMARY: Includes diesel-powered vehicles manufactured after the 1997 model-year and diesel-powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 8,501 pounds into the biennial smog check program, starting January 1, 2010.

The Senate amendments are significant and delete the requirement of a pilot testing program as a prelude to including diesel-powered vehicles into the biennial smog check program. Instead, the bill directs that, starting January 1, 2010, diesel-powered vehicles manufactured after the 1997 model-year and diesel-powered vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 8,501 pounds be integrated by the Bureau of Automotive Repairs (BAR) into the biennial smog check program. Authorizes diesel-powered vehicle smog check testing to include on-board diagnostic testing.

Just one of the reasons I am currently house hunting in Wyoming!

My '07 has a GVWR of 9,000#. If I interpret this ruling correctly,I'm exempt. Think I'll keep the house for now. :)

I think our trucks are rated over 8,501 gvw, 2500=8,800 gvw, Single wheel 3500= 9,900 gvw

not sure on the dullys:D

Supposedly this doesn't include pickups. But you know it only opens the door for it to happen eventually. By the way, my 2500 has a 8800 gvwr. Just remember that CA is wishy washy on the limits of smog checks. Back in 86 when I got a 67 vw, it was exempt. Then it had to be tested and now it's exempt again.

Aside from that, fuel's $3. 69 now@Chevron. That's $0. 20 higher than two weeks ago. I'll probably have to sell the house just to feed the Beast. With tank mod fix,my buddy paid $142+ for 37. 27 gallons last night. Jeez!!!!!

Bajabob,

You miss the point! One of the advantages of paying the premium price here in California is the less wear and tear on our vehicles from the well maintained roadways!:) How long before California also adds 'beautique' (sp?) diesel to go along with the California unique gasoline blend?

When I take over, I will get rid of CARB right after I eliminate the IRS... ...

SMOG rules may be a threat, but reality will set in when you get to pay that wonderful use tax again on your truck. You might want to reconsider returning. :{:{

Ditto on that one. The fwy on my way to work is so screwed on one 2 mile section, I think my steering has 150k miles of abuse on a 25K truck.

Oh Heck, I just got my CA registration for my 13 year old truck, it was $223. $154 of it is a weight fee! What a joke for a truck that runs around empty during the week and tows a few times a month! I have also heard that when bringing a truck into CA, DMV requires it to be weighed at an official weigh station so they can rape, oops I mean charge you the appropriate DMV fee.

I will be registering my '05 QC3500, SWR in California the end
of Feb. Doing it from out of State. Bought it in AZ when my old
Bronco went feet up there. I was on my way to North Carolina.
Have a 90 day permit from AZ. If I wait 90 days from purchase,
CA charges me $150 less then if I reg immediately. Will report
if I have to pay more when the unit goes to CA for first time.

I love CA as well but I might have to deal with the same thing. Bought the truck in Georgia then registered it in Key West FL with sale tax. Might be moving back to CA come June. California is awesome but winter is pretty nice here in Key West.
