I got the Mopar kit and put on the lights. The pin that the instructions say to hook up to is not hot. I can't get a voltage on it, it is pin 8 I believe. I don't have a service manual yet, so can somebody please tell me what wire to tap into for the switched park lights to power them? The relay I am planning on using draws 16 mA, so that shouldn't be too much for the switch. Thanks

When I added cab lights to my 98. 5, I ran into the same problem... No power on the seemingly correct pin. So what I did was pull the headlight switch, and soldered a wire to the 16 gauge black with yellow tracer wire. This is the parking light circuit. WOrks fine, as the cab lights don't draw much wattage.

To pull the headlight switch, just yank out the dash bezel, and you'll see three screws holding the headlight switch in. Remove these, and it'll pop right out. You can't miss the wire on the back of the switch. #ad

When you tie onto the wire, don't use scotch-locks or t-tappers... Mechanical fasteners are just not relaible. Last this you want is your cab lights flickering while crusin' past a Ford! Solder the wire instead, and cover the joint with good insulating tape. #ad

If you'll check the box on the left fenderwell where all the fuses and relays live, you'll probably find an unused socket that is switched with the lights- just plug your hot wire into it.

One thing you might want to check is the way you are looking at a plug. I have found with mopar service manuals, that they often look at the plug from the inside out, instead of the outside in. I set up plug wires on an old truck i had by looking at trhe distributor cap picture in the book, except i figured you would be looking down at the top of the cap as installed, BUT NOOOOO. The engineer that drew the picure must have thought it was funn, as the picture was actuall drawn as the way if you looked from the INSIDE of the cap. How dumb is that, but could be the problem...

Lawdog, I don't think that is the case. The connector is shaped in such a way that you cannot mistake which pin they are talking about. Thanks for the tip on pulling the dash Evan, I will probably use your method. So you just powered the lights off the switch, huh? I may just do that then, and if it gives me any trouble, I can always go back and put the relay in. Thanks guys.
