I've used Dynamat in several different vehicles since it was first released on the market. I had hundreds of square feet of Dynamat (now called) Original in my GMC (full size) Jimmy, having multiple layers as required for my stereo. Other than at the time of installation, I have never smelled the Dynamat in the interior. In a more recent vehicle I used the Dynamat Super which is essentially the same thing with a foil like facing.
I'm in the middle of Dynamatting my Ram, using their new, and very trick Xtreme. This material can only be fabricated in smaller sheets due to the nature of the material. The Dynamat Xtreme is 2x more effective than Dynamat Super, 4x more effective than Dynamat Original! Xtreme is made of a butyl material with a foil facing and does not require heat to effectively apply. I'm going to use a layer of Xtreme on the back cab wall followed by a layer of Dynaliner (or their Hoodliner if space will allow). Under the carpeting I'm using Dynaliner Max which is the ULTIMATE sound absorbsion material. I would use this on the wall although, with a layer of lead in the composition of this material, it's not recommended for overhead or verticle surfaces. Dynamat Xtreme has been (will be) used in all other areas I haven't already applied it. I just need to give Gary's son a call at Summit Racing and order some more. BTW, the Xtreme has virtually NO smell.
There are other materials that can essentially net the same results for less money although, they are usually quite a bit thicker, making them harder to apply to doors (not to mention most are not able to be placed in a semi-damp environment such as a door). Sure Dynamat is expensive... but the best always is!
