Happy Birthday to...

The earth has been in and out of an ice age several times without our help. We humans are currently at the top of the food chain because we adapt to our environment better than anything else has. We had better adapt rather than stick our heads in the sand pretending any of the highly profitable Global Warming schemes can do anything about it. One volcano blowing it's top makes man's contribution less than a rounding error.

Our adaptation to deal with forest fires is lacking. Every year it's the same thing: somewhere out west literally 1/2 the state burns down. It's time to seriously question the vehicle free zones and other forest mismanagement that allows uncontrollable firestorms let alone constant uncontrolled wildfires. By bad "slash and burn" farming practices we generated a dust bowl. Land management since then has reversed this. So there isn't any reason we can't get forest fires easier to control and put out. From the body count climbing this year to having to check for forest fires before going camping it's past time to take forest management seriously and do a better job than is being done now. I disagree with the let it burn because it's all natural, some trees need fire for their pine cones to open... Nope. Time for natural selection adaption and choose different trees.

The emissions and CO2 scrubber damage (aka loss of said forest) from a forest fire should concern you no matter what side of the isle of the Global Warming Religion you are on.

So some one tell me before the industrial revolution how much fossil fuel was burned each year? SnoKing

How much fossil fuel was consumed 50 million years ago when the earth avg temp was almost 30 degrees hotter than it is now?

Forest are being chopped down around the globe, and in Southeast Asia in particular. This is really bad! Those that deny that we have a problem are a problem within themselves. SnoKing

And then they are burned to add spite to chopping them down. We still burn brush on farms here so I really can't go on a rant about the high NOx emissions... Real problem is the world is overpopulated, religion still plays a part in that problem, and the 7.4 Billion people need land to farm (eat) or live on. Again one has to adapt because the White Elephant of overpopulation isn't going to change. (China is due credit as one country that has made an attempt at population control.) We can not forget that other countries are not interested in higher cost for CO2 emissions let alone more serious emissions of burning tires for industrial heat. They would love to see other countries take the brunt of this expense while they do nothing themselves. Cut down on political speeches would be a start. Credibility is worrying about NOx and laughably CO2 while ignoring the rest of the world 's more harmful emissions. It's an impossible sell when one wants to cost "us" more money in addition to what we pay for hard core emission reductions again while the 3rd world ignores all of it (and profits from lack of emissions controls we have to meet.)

One, however, can make a personal difference like I have in the past. Buy 80 acres of Woodland and plant trees on it. (No house on it, no RV pad, no nothing.) Join a commercial forest program that requires a good forest management plan to cut the land taxes down. Cost of land market value and planting trees is around $6000.00. Of course the $6000.00 for planting comes from tree sales while thinning the current forest on the land. If you wish to profit from Global Warming sell carbon credits: http://www.forestcarbonportal.com/c...uld-know-about-forest-carbon-offsets-us-south

I'd recommend doing this is wetter areas that do not have the wild west dry forest fire problems and even then it's a risk. MI, for example, has been doing this on a statewide scale forever. http://www.michigan.gov/mhc/0,4726,7-282-61080_62652_62669-53515--,00.html

At the end of the day where is the EPA and CARB with big fines to the State of CA for the NOx, CO, particulate, etc. emissions their mismanaged fire prone forests are letting off?

I spent a few years in the forestry industry (20) before switching to the mining side of the business were I worked. A lot of forestry regulations are now requiring for every tree removed two must be planted.

What is unfortunate about todays society is, if you cannot make it sensational than let's not report all of the true and tell only a colored version. This happens everyday with the far left and the tree huggers.

You do know what the MINING industry states don't you! They believe in "Earth First" also. After they are done mining earth they will move on to the other plants!

Another thing I like to point out and most people do not think about it! There is only two ways to get anything in this world; one is to farm it and the other is to mine it, nothing else will work! And you need to mine it first in order to grow anything.

Deforestation is a thing of the past. We are no longer losing forest, unless you believe the chicken little brigade. Of course what they don't tell you is they don't count tree farms as forest. Tree farms are any area replanted with preferred species for future harvest after logging operations. They are usually owned by lumber companies or real estate investment trusts, but also include many private land owners. I say those who claim global deforestation are guilty of lies of omission. Much like someone here. They like to tell the part of the story that supports their beliefs. I much preferred Paul Harvey. He told " The Rest of The Story".

I'm a fanboy of letting some areas burn, providing the fire does not threaten life, homes etc. We've gotten so good at snuffing fires out early on that has allowed the forrest(s) to over grow in an unnatural fashion that creates dense, thick vegetation, which does manifest mega fires that take an act of God to extinguish.

Take Yellowstone National Park for example. They have completely changed their wild land fire tactics since because that fire taught them a very hurtful and deadly lesson. Fortunately, the park has re-grown and is more beautiful now than it was. Wild flowers and other plant species, once thought to be instinct actually came to life after this fire, completely dumbfounding botanists, and horticulturist's. Besides the eastern side and the moose population, YNP is in great condition.

I wish you guys could see the Ca Poppy flowers that light up here following one of our annual wild land fires. It's almost blinding.

I hauled diesel(family business) to fire fighters in the Olympic National Park in Wasington years ago as they we learning to monitor and let the fire do its thing. It is not new. SnoKing

Virtually all wildlife has suffered at the hands of the wolf. A wolf that was introduced to the park that was not native to the land. And now they are running rampant. I remember going through there as a kid and seeing no shortage of wildlife. That's not the case anymore. Another example of human intervention. It's really sad.

^^^ It was interesting how the introduced the "Russian Grey" wolf to these areas. A much larger and more robust wolf than what was naturally there. Makes sense, right?

It is relatively new. It's just that now that the green earth weenies are having a hard time swallowing there own words of wisdom. There are fires all up in down the length of Ca, and guess who is at the cusp of starting yet another controlled ANNUAL burn? Sequoia National Park! We are inundated with smoke on a daily basis, yet they are cocked n loaded to start another one. You're reaching Sno. Don't hurt your back.

Not reaching old enough to know what was occurring in early 60's as I delivered fuel to fire camp.

Sadly they are making their way further and further south. My brother has been tracked by one from a distance while hunting elk (south central WY).
He was bow hunting but had a pistol for protection. If it got within range he would have been digging a hole to get rid of the evidence. They are hands down an unwelcome species. Invasive by every definition.

Huh............ Ive noticed a huge drop off in the wildlife there, but I never attributed it to the wolf. But I guess it does track from when they introduced them.

You can make all of the assumptions you want Sno. Just because the delivery boy delivers pipe to the job site doesn't make him a plumber.

California now has a confirmed pair of wolf's entering the Northern end of this state. I hope they feed on mountain lions, because the lions are consuming all the deer

Rainforest Alliance. Org. Did I mention the chicken little brigade?100,000 People dead because of rainforest burning? You believe that? Good, send them all your money. In case you didn't notice, that's what that little crock was written for, DONATIONS. They make it easy for you. Just point and click on the amount. Funny, they talk about helping sustainable forestry but refuse to include that acreage in forest land calculations. Don't forget to send them your money sence you believe so strongly in their cause.
