BigNasty... oh if I only could... if I only could!!!

You can just sell everything and move (it helps if you retire) just got back from my retirement home it's colder than a well digger A in MT. Last trip this year my playthings will have to wait until spring to make the trip.

I failed the first try- no catch bottle for blow by tube. Tech could not find my engine data plate (side of gear case by fuel pump) tried to find mechanical fuel timing (lengthy discussion regarding electronic timing with mechanical pump) I bought a new bottle and mount as the old ones had vibrated off and installed. truck then passed. I was informed that if I had guages, I would have failed immediately as they interfer with smog devices, I than had to explain the tap for pyro and hollowed bolt for boost. truck is stock. no checks for codes or tampering with the computer. no fuel dip to check for red dye. I'm getting the impression that the training these guys have recieved is sub par and will be relying on us to train them. I would find an independant shop if you don't have one and see if they can recommend a smog station that is up to speed on our smog requirements and updates from CARB. I am going to install my Fleetguard environment kit for the crankcase vent and hang the bottle on as they want to see that in spite of the oil going back to sump.

This state has no idea what they are doing and the "subjective" part is very much in play. sorry for the long post.

Got the dreaded notice as well and took the big *** black smoke blowing biotch to the diesel smog biz and they popped the hood, looked at all that nonsense under the hood, revved that gorgeous honey of my truck-all 285,000 miles... took my $$$ and gave me a receipt! 3 weeks later I got my registration and went to Baja for two months! She still blows like a trawler! LOL...

CA 99 trucks... . no egr, no cat. Does the truck fail if the CEL light is on? A tight converter is coming and I'm told some CA trucks with a tight converter can throw a P1740 code. If this is so how do you convince the kid doing the smog test everything is A-OK?

Well my time has come for my 98. 5, I called AFE they are going to send me a CARB sticker for my air box. Even though Bob says thier exempt, Ill probably get a tech who knows nothing about older diesel trucks. I'm just going to leave my Drag Comp box plugged in, at it's lowest setting and if the tech asks I'll tell him it's part of the trailer towing package. Everytime I pull the box I get those darn codes, so I'm leaving well enough alone. I'm going to take it to a shop I've been to before that was recomended by a mechanic that sends all his customers to. I'll have to reply back after I get tested.

I'm bringing mine into the dealer for smog tomorrow. Completely stock aside for an AFE Bladerunner intake. After that,AAA for $386 registration booty to Governor Brown. Merry Christmas Jerry!:{

had to do mine last month. open hood look. hookup obd. took 48. 00

failed first time because 3 days before installed two batts. that cleared memory on computer. had to drive 70 miles with aleast 4 start ups. went back paid 28. 00 more got pasting grade. now good for two more years. moral don't disconnect both batts. before smog.

Are you serious? I ran mine blow by to the transmission area as I was sick of it blowing into my fresh air vent. Yup, after escaping the dreaded diesel smog check, I got nabbed this year. I guess I better take my DDTTPM (Edge EZ) off and enable the waste gate. What a waste of time.

I am so glad I live where I do!!! :D

A good friend of mine, that loves Cummins, just gave up on diesels altogether after living there for the last 5 years

He says it is too much of a hassle to own one there...

Keep in mind that even the 50mpg Volkswagen diesels couldn't be purchased new in California!!! They had to be brought in from elsewhere for many years!!! I was shocked to learn of this on the TDI forum when I owned one several years ago!!!

Hey Mikey,

This is actually just a drop in the bucket. We can't have guns and now even our plastic and paper bags have been outlawed from the stores. We have to carry our own, germ invested canvas bags. Kalifornia will be the next Greece.

As an update, I heard another TDR member in my state failed due to relocating the blow-by bottle.

You can have guns not 50 cal's and some other really minor things. DO YOU REALLY NEED A 50? DO YOU REALLY NEED HIGH CAP MAGS?, As far as the bag issue hey the ones that just throw there TRASH OUT THE WINDOW take it up with them. Its the LOW LIFE that made CA what it is. JMO a FROMER CA resident

BIGNASTY,

I know that you are from Kalifornia and now enjoying the scenery in Montana. I was being general with the guns as that comment was off topic. If you want to get into specifics, there is actually a list of "allowed" guns in Kalifornia. If the gun isn't EXACTLY configured as it shows on the list, it is banned... . not to mention clips, spark arresters, etc. . Much more than just banning 50 cals.

Absolutely! The list goes on and on. I have one thing to say," Adios pendejos. "

I will Get boo boo boo for this but IMO they should have never let ANY ASSULST weapons out to the public any way. I used to belong to the NRA and went to a BIG meeting in the LA convention center. The NRA had a yo yo walking around with a mike and asking questions and letting people voice their opinions. They stuck the mike in my face and actually started to get weird about me refusing to voice my opinion. I have taken MANY people out to shoot guns some have shot for a long time some have NEVER shot a gun. I start them out with a fun little gun a 22 and usually a single shot. They have fun all day long and then you can hand them an AR 15 with a full clip and you can SEE IT IN THE LOOK ON THEIR FACE something just snaps and for some reason unknown to me they have to see how many rounds they can get down range and fast. Its not uncommon to then see that person get the first gun some sort of Military Assault weapon.

I guess that like many Veterans I have shot so many rounds of FULL AUTO FIRE that it really holds no fascination anymore. I have gone more to 1 shot EXACTLAY where I want it. BIL is of the same opinion as I he was in the Army and Vietnam also and full auto is fun but BIG DEAL.

This is the contest that my BIL FIL Nephew and I are working on this to me is alot of fun. SO LET THE BOOS START IJMO

Bignasty,

Big Boo boo boo to you then. You shouldn't have left the state then. I'm not looking for a full auto, but all the other restrictions I feel are an infringement on my constitutional rights.

Then you just have to get wise and learn how the bend the rules Smog is simple find a county that is Excempt simple n Easy

My truck is registered in MN and they don't do smog checks, unfortunately I have to bring my truck in to get tested because of new regulations on base that I have to get my truck checked in order to get my stickers renewed. Will they require me to bring my vehicle up to California standards, or can I leave it the way I have it? I have the K&N intake, Edge Comp(hot version), Banks High Ram, Magnaflow 4" turbo back exhaust system. Hopefully I don't have to remove all the mods. I would just unplug the chip, but I get the check engine light whenever I do.

I suppose a good portion of the idiots performing the inspections would fail someone on the "visual inspection" if they had one of these http://www.cumminsfiltration.com/pdfs/product_lit/americas_brochures/SB_LT32514.pdf simply because Dodge didn't offer it :-laf

"It looks weird and doesn't have a CARB sticker on it... Sorry pal, but the state says I can't pass it!"
