I need some help from the California members. I had a Profile + bug deflector w/ light guards on my '99. It was part # 251182. I have been trying, so far very unsuccesfully, to locate another unit for my 2001 eth/dee. All they ever gave for a location in their installtion instructions was a street address which is
5100 Shea Center Drive, Ontario, Ca 91761.
If anyone knows how to get ahold of them so I can order another bug defelector,or of any supplier who might have one for sale, it would be most greatfully appreciated.
Thanks in advance
John Styer

jstyer... I don't know if this will help or not,I have a Profile + bug deflector on my truck (2001) and I got it from "checker" Auto parts store here in Utah. It cost $42. 00. That included the fender guards. If you don't have a checkers auto parts store around, call a bunch of 4x4 stores and/or popular auto parts stores in your area... . If all else fails, let me know via e-mail and I'll see if we can ship one from here to you.

Well thanks to HeberRam, I am getting my bug defelector. After much negotiating through all the links in the web-site for PartsAmerica, I finally located and purchased the bug deflector. It was $42. 99, the kicker (although I can't complain too much) is that the freight is $30. 60 (almost as much as the deflector. They said they would ship it today and I should receive it in 4 days. I really appreciate the information and once again,
IT PAYS TO BE A MEMBER OF TDR!!!!
Thanks

I sent an E-mail to partsamerica.com relaying the feedback from this posting and I received the following reply:
Dear John;

We are glad that you brought this to our attention and as soon as we determine the correct charge we will adjust the shipping charge on this order and you are right it should be closer to $10 or less.

We hope that your next visit is also a pleasant one, if not please contact us at (877)808-0698 or customerservice@partsamerica.com.

Sincerely,

I had a similar predicament. I bought one of their units and was installing it on my truck, but became frustrated when it wasn't installing as per the instructions. When I couldn't find a phone number to call for help, and then couldn't get a number from information, I became irked and put it back in the box and took it back to the store where I bought it!

a couple of months later, I was at a Pep Boys and they had a booklet for looking up part #'s and applications for bug deflectors, and there, big as life, was the name, address and phone number for the company, there in Ontario, CA!! And to top it off, they had a toll free technical number! Why don't they have it on, or in, their box?????

So is this a good product, but just some lousy (or just goofy) merchandising?

I still don't have a deflector. Even going up and down I-5 and across I-40 I haven't seen the need for it yet. But - all that might change come spring or summer when all the bugs hatch!!

That package CAN SHIP UPS for under $10. 00. Check your package when it arrives... I hope they include a tube of vasoline for that price.

I ordered mine from www.carparts.com #ad

I really feel this is a good product, that's why I went to these extremes to locate one again for my new '01. You are right about the information included in the box, though,I went through the same thing with the only thing given was a street address and information did not have any number for them, I couldn't find anything on the Internet either. If it hadn't been for the members of TDR, I wouldn't have found one now. I also got an E-mail today saying that were crediting me for the overcharge for shipping. If you still have access to that 800 number, I would apprecaite it.

I have a question for all those with a bug deflector. Does it vibrate or rattle at speed on the highway or with a head wind?

I had a Lund on my 96, but could not stand the vibration noise at 70 - 80, or when there was a head wind. What brands work, and does anybody else have the noise?

Thanks!

I installed a bug deflector on my '85' Ram, and happily, #ad
on a 600 mile trip to Bishop, CA. from Sacramento,CA. ,[600 miles round trip] I think I received only one little bug 'splat', probably a suicide! Yeah!!' However, my gas milage went from 14mpg's to 10mpg's!!! Too much wind resistance, I suppose. ???
The Dodge engineers/technicians who design & run our trucks through wind tunnels for weeks on end to try to design a perfect, low resistance flow of air, evidently designed our stock Rams to be best as they came off the assembly line.
So, therefore, If you install a bug deflector, you mess it all up,... in my limitedn experienced opinion.

Fact:The First Fords' had 'DODGE' Engines! The new PSD's need them!

RBrooks,my 3 piece OEM bug defector doesn't vibrate but it makes the antenna and rear view mirrors vibrate more at certain speeds.

I have a 3 piece Lund on mine and it does not vibrate or cause any problems with mirrors or antenna. I went to Tucson and back to Phoenix yesterday and had bug stuff all over the windshield. Honest I am wondering if it is working. If it is was there a lot of bugs in the desert!!!! Who knows maybe I installed wrong but I am not sure that is possible.

No plans to bomb. This is my retirment vehicle currently pulling 21' 5er want to buy 30 to 35 for retirment.

I bought mine , not for bugs deflection, but for snow!! It works great with snow as it pushes it over the windsheild and gives me more visiability and I don't need the wipers on as much. As far as bugs go it seems they are heavier, and with the bug shield it puts them smashing right at eye level on the windsheild..... LOL

Compared to all other vehicles I have owned in 38 years, I get only a small amount of bugs on the windshield, and so far, no rock chips. However, I could not keep the fender deflectors on. They were mounted with velcro and started coming off after about 1 year, so I ended up leaving them off and have not seen any difference. My deflector does not vibrate nor do my mirrors which have the trailer extensions slid over them.

As to the 800 number, do you have a Pep Boys near you? Next time I go I'll try to remember to get the number. Did you try 800 555 1212 information?

I'm still running with no deflector. I'm suspicious that the design is deflecting a lot already.

I'm presently of the feeling that just maybe, the newer designs of these "bug shields/deflectors" have lost their original purpose in favor of 'styling'.

Originally they were flat pieces of lexan that went straight up. These worked great! Created a whirpool effect in front of the windshield and I could see bugs do the 'loop de loop' and then sail over the top!

The newer, stylish models, made in response to the Mfr changes, from my experience just don't do the job as well.

I'm wondering if I should go with the old, straight style, and rig it so I can put it on and take it off as necessary for the conditions, and **** the mileage in favor for a clean windshield... ... But then... ...

Jeez, don't the engineers consider this
stuff at the factory? Guess not.
