I think removing the cap would make things worse because you would loose available light being directed to the reflector that "shapes" the beam. You would just have a bright flood lamp with less distance.

I would also be interested and would like to add in some input of the design in todays lighting technology I would like to see LED based turn signals and marker lights as those that would like the clear look can have that but not loose the intesity of the yellow when illuminated this also adds a simplicity factor for the light design as the LED's are much smaller to work with and can be easily incorporated into the housing design. The other benefit to this would be you could easily introduce the amber daytime running light utilizing the same lamp and there are no burnout problems associated with this. Think of the 06 headlight design with turn singal below the headlights instead you could use a thin multi LED strip that you would not even see when off but would provide a DTRL as well as park and turn function...

The reason I'm not putting brite-boxes on mine, is that they make you THINK you can see better, but all they do is put out more light in the same poor pattern. It's a panacea. Adding the low beam (and the fogs) only serves to add light close in, creating more light reflection back into the driver's eyes, thus causing reduced long range visibility. We need better lights, or driving lights, or both.

My 02 uses the same exact headlight bulb as my 05 yet it dose not have the hood over the bulb.

LED's would be nice.

Hey mymtnhauler, how different are the reflector designs between your 02 and 05? Would it be possible for you to post a pic of at least the 02 (mine is also an 05). Also, do you feel that the headlamps on the 02 are superior to those of your 05? More specifically, do they throw a longer hi beam? After looking at my headlights again this afternoon, I can see that it would not be a difficult experiment to remove the cap covering the bulb and see how that affects the light on one side as compared to the other. It's just an experiment and I'll let you know how it goes, though I am not yet sure when I will have time to do it. These forums are great--thanks to all of you for the info. Still wondering if MoparBob knows a rough time frame on the availability of the new aftermarket headlamps. CFish

I'm wondering if just shimming the bulb out (back) just a touch wouldn't make a better beam.

If somebody wants to play around with it, throw an O ring or something on the base of the bulb and put it back in and see if the beam improves. I'm guessing the reflector is probably OK, and the bulb socket is just alllowing the bulb to go in too deep.

Well first, sorry I don't have any way to post pics on the site (to primitive of a computer and the lack of knowhow too use it)Go too the gallery and search for any 02's there shod be some there! Now both of my trucks are sports and the headlights are completely difrant. The diferance between the 02 and the 05 is that the 02 has 9004s and 9007s the 05 uses 9007s( I use Silver stars in both trucks). The 02 turns on both sets of lights highs and lows at the same time, were as my 05 will only turn on the high beam elements and turn off the low beam elements, the four lights makes it a much better light pattern when on high.

Spell check no worky #@$%! :{

UPDATE:

The prototype(s) should be ready for fitting and testing in a couple weeks. We have an opportunity to expedite this process if I can find a 03 to 05 Ram owner in the UK or the Netherlands, Germany, or Belgium that's willing to help out. Anybody out there want to be a part of this? Anybody know anyone out there that would like to help out by making their truck available for fitment of the prototype housings? I can't guarantee any compensation for it other than the satisfaction of being the first to play with the prototype product, but the manufacturer might do something for you since you helped out. PM your (or the willing participants) email address to me and I will forward it to the manufacturer so that they can make contact and coordinate with one another.

Progress at last!!! :)

No pictures available yet. There probably won't be any till the first adjustments are made (if any are needed) after the test fitting. Pics may be available in about 2 to 4 weeks depending on how things go.

Anything new on this project, its availability date or images of the final product?

At $650 for a plug and play system, and after some unbiased positive reports on field testing by a few TDR members, I think I would definately be interested in this product. Expecially if it meant not needing a brite box at about $200.

I was hoping to be able to say about this time that they are right around the corner from putting them out on the market, but they aren't. I am still trying to track down a truck in the UK or nearby for test fitting to expedite the process. As soon as I get some good solid information as to a release date and pictures, I'll get it out. I hate to speculate on any future dates at this point. They are making progress though so no worries there.

A lense protector would be nice. I've cracked 2 lenses on mine so far. Or just a super thick lenses. Out here nobody enforces the whole mud flap on semi's, so most run around with out em  And yes i'd be super interested in these. aux driving lights wont work for me because the darkest and longest nights are in winter, and I need fast access to my plow.

you outta try running over to the state trooper barracks and showing them your headlight collection and explaining to them the problem thats a sure fire way to get the heat on them trucks. if that dont work you need to send a letter and a headlight to someone political or local news to get the pressure on the state police barracks to enforce the law. personally all it took was a buddy lieing through his teeth and stretching the bits of truth of my truck and license situation way out to get the law enforcement up my *** and flying over it regularly. so it should be just as easy for you.

No updates right at the moment. I should have received an update by now but haven't . I will get back with everyone ASAP with some news here in the next 2 to 3 weeks. I will be doing some heavy traveling in the next couple weeks also so I will be in and out of touch as my schedule is up in the air, but I will get back with everyone the second I receive some good info! Hopefully within the next day or two. Thanks!

Work is progressing as we speak. I was unable to obtain any specifics as I have been traveling without much in the way of communications for the past 3 weeks. I hope to have an update and maybe some beta results very soon. Man this thing is dragging out... I think Murphy has a special place and time in his day just for me ;).
