Please keep in mind that I am currently working overseas on a job that requires a 7 day a week, 12 hour a day commitment, am trying to communicate effectively with a manufacturer located in yet another part of the world and trying to keep in touch with this forum that is yet in another part of the world. I believe most of you know how hectic life in the states can get... well... . if my responses are sometimes slow in coming, my apologies. I sometimes hop and skip through the forums and posts due to time constraints so my activities are very erratic and I do tend to overlook posts sometimes...

No sleep for the weary. Keep your head down. I know I will in about 3 weeks (for round 2). Won't be needing any new headlamps for at least 9 months.

Agreed... got old a long time ago. It's still going on too... next week, next week, next week... . But at this point in the game I figure I will continue to send Emails until I either get the product or I **** them off enough they tell me to get bent. Either way I will get resolution :).

14 months and counting since this thread began, the day I took off on my post-deployment vacation. Wow, here I go again. Still, no lights.

Sadly, there was tremendous improvement immediately in front of the truck, but not down the road where illumination is needed. Whether the Brite Box is worth the money is up to the user -- I'd say yes, but it still doesn't solve the problem. EXAMPLE: I have driven for the last 30,000 miles with my headlights on bright and NOT A SINGLE DRIVER has blinked his headlights

I agree they could be better... but I get flashed daily it seems, even on low beams.

Pretty sad you dont' get flashed with the high beams on. Thats been my experience too. I have auxiliary lights. Work great. But when I hit the dimmer its almost like I have no light at all. And it'd sure be nice to have something thats not going to attract the attention of the police.

Moving Forward

I don't believe I said that they would cost a thousand dollars. We discussed a price range from the very start and we should be closer to half that when all is said and done.

BTW: The latest is they are still having fitment problems and that is what the current delay is.

Moparbob:

Again - I commend you on trying to get our lighting issue fixed, but the truth is that your supplier is just not interested. It has been over a year with little to no movement from them - heck, they are not even able to answer your emails in a timely manner and provide you with timelines on the project.

Its time to dump this supplier as they obviously are not interested in this project.

Here are my suggestions on moving forward:

1. Let us drop this pipe-dream and keep complaining about our poor lighting #@$%!

2. If you are still hell-bent on getting some good light made, get ahold of the many OE lighting manufacturers (including the one that makes the OE lights for the Dodge) and see what can be done. My suggestion is to use some off-the-shelf parts that have proven performance. That will also keep the cost down. The other benefit for going with off-the-shelf parts is that production can be ramped up very quickly.

One question - where are you located?

My offer - I have some contacts in the industry who can probably help to find some contacts for you with OE lighting suppliers. PM me and I will gladly help.

Chris

IMHO, this is a problem that can't be fixed. DC is unresponsive to the problem, doesn't know, doesn't care or doesn't read this forum. For my part, it doesn't matter and I have moved on from the issue. If you want more light, buy a light bar and add 'em up front. Otherwise, feel your way down the highway like I've been doing the last few years.

I fixed my lighting issue, with an attitude of "I can do it".

If you want more light retro some projectors in you housing. HiDPlanet.com :: Index Spend some time looking around over there you can find all the parts and info you will ever need. It is the TDR of the HID world. I would suggest some Acura TL lights because they are bi-xeon (high and low beams) I will help anybody that wants lights now.

Jordan

Jordan,

Your conversion thread --https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/3rd-generation-ram-forum-no-engine-transmission-discussions/191334-how-hid.html --is my favorite solutiuon to our headlight problem. I would love to have some bi-xenon HID lights in my Ram. What kind of help are you offering?? I am more then willing to hire you to convert the stock headlights into an HID kit which I could just install and wire, as I don't really have time to do this conversion. How much (ballpark) and How long would it take?? You can PM me with details if you would like. Thanks.

Jordan's How to HID is a great write up and much thanks to Jordan for sharing the how-to.

I kinda wish I would have gone that route vs all the experiments with aux lights I have done so far.

I remember a while back talk about the projector lamps found on ebay but none were HID. Another search showed these

Why wouldn't these be any good? looks like you get HID in a projector along with a high beam halogen along side it.

High beam supplement is a piece of cake with all the great aux lights available if your willing to add a light bar. Low beam supplements have been a work in progress.

Here is another idea I have not seen someone try. .

These lamps with these bulbs or even this kit. Maybe a band-aide but bound to be better than some 9005's in the oem fogs.

Matt, I am still interested in your PIAA 540 solution, but as I live only 2 miles from the Pacific and do ALOT of driving and towing on Hwy 1, I would then still need to mount auxiliary foggers somewhere other then the stock location. In fact, I am still planning on adding the Toshiba bulbs and Fogzilla wiring to get 2500 lumens out of the stock foggers, instead of the 1100 they now offer. Jordans HID solution, while costly, seems to offer phenomenal light as well as being able to keep the foggers in the stock holes; Furthermore, if he can do a bi-xenon conversion to offer hi's and lo's in the factory headlight, I would not have to mount any lamps on my Ute bumper, which is a slight plus for me aesthetically. I must say that I do appreciate both of you guys sharing the results of your well thought out and costly experiments!! By the way, t I read on some threads here that the eBay type HID conversions tend to scatter too much light everywhere, including in the face of oncoming drivers. I'll try to search the threads that I have read and find the actual quotes.

... . I did buy a pair of these PIAA 540's in a driving beam that we talked about in hopes I can aim them low enough for low beam supplement so stay tuned...

I think that something along the lines of supplemental lighting to which you refer is going to be my best solution. Question regarding your link... it refers to the kit as p/n 5432... but the PIAA website within the 540 descriptions list the kit as 5462 for the driving light option.

I will stay tuned to see how well it adapts into the stock bumper location (that is where you are thinking of mounting them?)... thanks for your information.

ON EDIT: I see where the link came from... it appears that this is a Dodge Ram specific kit.

It does but be careful if you order because the "Ram specific" kit should come with special mounting hardware so it's a good idea to confirm that.

I got the 540 mounting kit today and it has not only the brackets for the 540 lights but also replacement bumper inserts that fit the larger lamps.

CFish- If the 540's work for me and since I already have a light bar I will probably switch out the spot lenses I got for some fog lenses along with good all weather bulbs to function as a fog. I don't get much fog at all but forgot about the heavy snow white-out conditions that are possible around here.

Just thought I'd stick my nose in this thread again and say I've been driving with my brights on (BriteBox included) for the last 20,000 miles and not one vehicle has flashed me to dim 'em. Does that tell you something, DC? Are you listening, DC? Think this might be a design fault, DC? Nah, you wouldn't admit it if you knew it.

Mine is a 2nd gen, I put the "quad" sport lights in and wired it with an aftermarket harness, all four elements burn AND I do get brighted some now, OTOH, I have decent lights at last!

Unbelievable that in the almost 18 months since this thread was started, some enterprising backyard mechanics have put together very decent, workable lighting solutions, but a dedicated manufacturing team is still having "fitment issues". Will be interesting to see if they ever do come out.

Mopar Bob, are these being developed and/or manufactured in the UK? If so, I've got concerns. The joke amongst British car owners is that the reason English beer is warm is because they use Lucas (automotive) wiring on their fridges...

Perhaps those that have found workable conversions can patent the design and get Hella, PIAA or some other manufacture (like, in England, maybe?) to mass produce them for us that have been waiting. And waiting.

No offence to Mopar Bob. I'm sure you're the most frustrated of the lot of us.
