I thought I read there were bi-xenon options that may work - Acura RL lights?
What is the casualty (cost) of the LS 430 lamps? Looks like I may need to start my search. The JKloppe HID alt looks accomplishable - a hearty project none-the-less. Truck would be down with the headlamps out for mod -- seafish, are you acquiring another set of lamp housings to work on so you still have lights on your truck?
Thanks,
Ron
Ron, the LS430 HID projectors , when you can find them , run $300-$500 per pair; This may or may not include ballasts, which while not exhorbirant, may run you another $100 per pair. I am also going to purchase another pair of the Anzo replacemnt oem headlights so that I can continue to drive my truck during the retrofit, that will set me back about another $200. JKloppe in
https://www.turbodieselregister.com...-transmission-discussions/191334-how-hid.html noted that he also had about $900. in parts. This does NOT include any of the lighting that I will install for high beams OR foggers, nor the airbag lift kit to keep the truck level so that I do not blind other drivers when running fully loaded, since eventually I would be running air bags anyway. There are BiXenon options out there, including the Acura TL's, BUT their light is not near as powerful as the LS 430's which are considered to be the BEST of all HID projectors in terms of throwing a focused beam; Please note that they are about 7" in diameter, as oppposed to the smaller TL. That's NOT to say that the TL, or other HID projectors, wouldn't be a huge upgrade. Others here have used them and are very happy with them!
I still do not know how much it will actually cost to have someone due the headlight conversion, probably in the range of $600--there is ALOT of time required to do it well and accurately, which is why I would like JKloppe to do it. His experience and meticulousness will insure that the work goes smoothly. If he cannot, I will try one of the more experienced HID retrofitters on hidplanet.com, or do it myself.
SO, as you can see, the LS430 conversion is not for the faint of heart (wallet), but for ME, it seems to me to be the only way to go at this juncture.
Others are extremely happy with their light bars and Lightforce (or other) lights, and that is likely a much more cost effective solution for a lighting upgrade, but it is not per se a low beam upgrade--you will not necessarily be able to run with your brighter lights on in traffic, which for me is important to be able to do.
Let us know what you decide to do!!!
