Have a 2011 3500 srw truck with 41,000 miles as I was exiting off freeway yesterday I get too the Stop Sign and as I go to take off Truck dies being that I had a 40 ft trailer with me I was stuck went to crank it over and that's all it did shut key off waited about 30 sec and hit the key it turn's over and Fire's right back up with no problem at this time There is no check engine light I will check for stored codes today but Could it be cam position sensor at such low miles ???????:(:(

Cam sensor failure is very rare... ..... I would look into fuel contamination causing your problem from your previous post.

Contamination will wipe out your fuel system very quick and take some $ to repair

Hey Bob that's what's Wierd I am not sure it's fuel even after throwing fuel rail pressure code 2 times the last time I reset the code and the re started it and it ran Beautiful all the way up into Washington towing the load I had then on way home it ran just as well untill exiting the freeway it just dies and then all it did was crank then I shut key off and hit it again and it fired up an ran home with no troubles I checked tonight for stored codes and there was Nothing I am going to dig into fuel tank this weekend and go from there see what I can find . Thank you for the help

Your 2011 truck appears to have some strange issue every few weeks or so, what are you doing to it to cause this?

Ron I have been driving the heck out of it when I first started having troubles I was on a trip from Southern Ca. to Northern Wash state with a load of 24,500 running great till I hit 1/4 tank and then that's when my fuel troubles started I checked codes and both were rail pressure low so I changed fuel filter and it ran fine for another 350 miles at that point I was at 1/4 tank again and it threw the same codes so this time I reset them and kept the tank at 1/2 or better made it all the way up to Washington and back running just the truck it ran Beautiful till other day I was running with traffic and as I went to pass another car It started hesitating when I gave it fuel as I was getting closer to home it threw the engine light again this time it didn't derate the engine I made it home and checked codes again and same thing rail pressure low I was at the point I was going to buy a new fuel pump n replace it but found that the pump is covered under 100,000 mile warr so truck is in shop right now I should get it back tomorrow but the Dumb tech's can't get it to throw the same codes so I may have to do there work for them but we will see . All this computer crap is why I am in the process of building a First gen Crewcab :)

Your problem is you left the "Land of Fruits and Nuts" and the truck did not want to go back.

All kidding aside have you changed your fuel filter again when this occurred the second time? Did you inspect your first filter to see if there was any type of debris in the filter? I would change it just to be sure there is no debris plugging the filter, maybe there are some debris in the tank and you are picking them up at 1/4 tank full, thus causing your hesitating.

Just another idea to look at.

Well right after we got back from Wash St. I did a complete service, fuel filter n oil change I have torn apart the fuel filter's and haven't found anything in them and every time it has thrown a CEL it has been PO 0087 ,0087PD so that tell's me Fuel pump fail not sure why I thought it was CPS I think at that point I was drawning for Straw's

In your previous post you stated this only happens when tank is 1/4 full, correct?

One idea and this is a stretch maybe the draw tube is not position correctly and at 1/4 full the in tank pump may not pump efficiently so you get the cell.

In the last issue 76, R. Patton discussed how he removed the bed to access the fuel pump and draw tube to install the new FASS fuel system and his issues.

You might be able to remove the bed like Robert did and investigate why the pump is not picking up correctly with a 1/4 tank full.

Another idea now would be a good time to look into and extra capacity tank and install an external fuel pump like the Fass of Airdog systems. Telling the DW that this is the only sure way to fix the problem.

Just a thought.

Well this Only started when I left for the trip to Wash St. ran fine 2 day's before trip when I went to Yuma Az to pick/up the 2 truck's I was hauling . as we got into Modesto is when it first threw a CEL at that point Yes I was at roughly 1/4 tank I changed filter refueled I was carring 150 extra gal's of fuel and both tank's are well used and clean . Ran beautiful till we got off freeway in Redding and it threw the same codes as first time this time i checked filter and just reset codes and next morning bought 2 more filter's and took off Didn't have any more troubles but I also never let it get below the 1/4 tank line got back home and empty the truck ran Flawless untill this last week I was on a run back from Sacramento Ca (15 hr trip } as we were getting close to home it was well over 100 degree's out and I was on semi flat ground but was running truck kinda hard and I went to give it fuel and it started to fall on it's face a little after that it threw a cel when I got home I pulled codes and it was the same as always PO 0087 ,0087PD did some research and it said fuel pump is failing I wish I had the money for a Fass system because I would put 1 in but right now I don't so Dealer is fixing it under Warr and I will take it from there . Thank you very much for your help with this matter when i get truck back I will let you know what dealer said was wrong . When I spoke with them Yesterday afternoon they said something about a trans code also so we will see .

I would rely on what the codes are for sure, if it says it's a fuel pump, that will be the problem, it may be a bad wire connection, or some other part of the pump system.

Well got a funny 1 for you all took truck into dealer and told them it threw a code and derated motor while I was driving so I reset code and drove it into dealer they tell me they can't find problem But they found a problem with the trans showing a code of

P2704 had to reprogram trans software and test drove truck and everything is fine but the fuel pump isn't acting up so I am back to square 1 I guess I will have to do there work for them as drive it till it throw's a code again then have dodge pay for the tow Feel like the only thing the Mechanic's are good for any more are part's changer's

The code appeared, so you cleared the code, drove it to the Dealer, and the Mechanic is just a parts changer, OK, I hope you don't do this with a medical issue with your Doctor, you call the 1-800 Dodge number, they tow it and fix it, I would leave your code reader at home in the future.

Well it was either clear the code and drive it home or sit along side the road and wait for the tow truck No thank's I think I will take my chances and clear the code and drive home it was running Fine before code so I knew it wasn't a hazzard to drive it . Why i called them part's changer's is if the owner tell's you it has this going wrong why wouln't you trust the person that was driving the truck at the time it showed the code instead hang dodge for a trans repair that wasn't a problem ? it didn't have a CEL when i left it at the dealer but all of a sudden it does for them ?

Ok,with the 6. 7 check engine issues corporate makes the tech fill out a very lengthy work sheet to document everything from modified equipment to all the dtc's found. It's goal is to help the root cause getting found insuring the truck is fixed the first time. When codes are cleared and brought in with out that code you are not helping the process. The freeze frame info will often times give the tech good insight to where to start testing. All the info is available to star for giving assistance in diagnosing those tough to find issues

The worksheet become part of the vehicle history allowing any future dealer working on the truck to access the info on what was found and any work that was done in more detail than available in the past.

owner tell's you it has this going wrong why wouln't you trust the person that was driving the truck at the time it showed the code

No tech will do what you are asking unless it is on your dime where you are taking the responsibility. Ram will not pay a tech to do a repair the customer has told them exist,it must be verified .

Bob that's what I was hoping but they said if it doesn't have the cel they can't fix it So I guess I will have to drive it and when it act's up again just have it tow'd to dealer that way they can see the code's
