Help! Truck/Trailer "Surging" Under Braking

I have a '95 HitchHiker Premier 36' Dbl Slide I'd be interested in selling if you're serious (I'll even deliver). It's a great camper -- but I've only had it out twice all year (too dang busy). Hoping to get out next wkend -- I prefer 'off season' camping anyways. Lighter crowds and cooler weather are AOK with me. email me at -- email address removed -- or post a private message on the board here if you're interested.

Campers

I sure liked our Pastime made in Mt. Angel Oregon. It was informative to go down and meet the owner and see the materials and construction method that they use. We ordered it through Apache Camping Center in Portland. They also carry the Artic Fox which was considered.

No nothing about the new Lance but experience with an 87 would make me think twice before buying again.

If your buying used - step inside and take a deep breath to see if you can detect any musty/moldy odors, open every nook and cranny and look (with a flashlight if you have to) for water staining or material seperation, flip up the cushions/bedding and check for moisture or mold, look for indications of rust on metal brackets/screws/racks and check out all the appliances just like the dealer would if you bought new. Now that you looked - - some water stains can be caused by kids spills/accidents, window weep holes plugged and condensation so you have to use your best judgement as to the cause. For the outside - make sure the surfaces are not punctured/ripped/torn, structure is sound, grab the jacks and pull on them to see if they move, mouldings are in place and get up and look at the roof

Plug 3 for Jayco. $15k for our new 25' 5th wheel was money well spent. It's solid underneath and not too bad inside for the price. Pulling it feels no different than having 1,000 lbs in the bed. The ride is great! It's perfect for weekend and vacation trips for my wife and I with our two teenage daughters. Just big enough to give us plenty of room on a vacation but not big enough to discourage us from hooking up for a short trip.

Truck Campers

I have a 92 Northland Polar 8'6. Bought it used, the camper is a good fit for a 3/4 ton. With AC it weights about 2500#.

Since the day I bought this camper nothing has gone wrong. I've had it for 4yrs now.

If you can find one used, check it out.

Jayco

Plug #4 for Jayco. I think the Jayco is a great buy for the money. These camper are finished out very nice and are built to last. Note: Jayco has several different lines depending on how nice you want your trailer to be... ... this makes it a bit easier to decide on a model. I am a part-time camper so I got the base-line unit but I am still very pleased with the options it came standard with. By the way I would highly recommend a 5th wheel over a bumper-pull trailer... ... my opinion. Good luck on your hunt!

Do a search in here, not too long ago there was a post on this subjet and there's a lot and good info on it, there is a lot of things to look at when buying a camper, good luck.

I guess I should toss in a plug for Arctic Fox. Nice units with any accessory you want including propane 3500 watt generator.

ditto on that Artic Fox slide!:D If I ever replace my Lance, it will be with an Artic Fox slideout! I have a 34' Avion too, but I use it as a guest house.

Jayco plug #7. We've owned three - a pop-up and two 5th wheels. Excellent value for money, solid and reliable.

I have a 1999 Terry travel trailer built by Fleetwood. Most of its travel has been to the dealer for warranty repairs due to poor build quality. I am now in a dispute to get a botched warranty repair fixed. Never again will I buy a Fleetwood product.
