This prank has been around since engines and cars been around but mostly in the 30's and 50's. You sneek up to a friends ride(while he sleeping) and add fuel to the tank. Your friend brags about the fuel mileage he is getting. When you get tired of the bragging you siphon fuel out of the tank leaving him mistified why he is suddenly get worse miealge than a tank.

Tell your friend to buy a locking fuel cap.

After pumping over $1300 of fuel into my 2 trucks last week, I wish I had friends that pulled pranks like that!!!:p

My 04. 5 will consistently get 26-27 (hand calculated) if I am driving 62 mph on level hwy. For what its worth on my 04. 5 the over head has always been with in . 5 mpg from hand calculated. But on my 03 it is always about 2mpg higher than hand calculated. Did see 30 on my overhead on the 04. 5 this past week was on a short 70 mile trip all downhill road the whole way. Don't think it would last a whole tank there but it sure did make me feel fuzzy after putting $4. 80 fuel in it.

By the way 03 has never done this good.

I hate the color of the 04. 5 and the black leather interior but am to scared to trade it off for one I would like better because I know I am one of the lucky few on the fuel effiency front.

Before I installed the II 120 injectors I was gettin23 mpg at 85 mph now with the injectors I'm getting about 20 mpg. I'm trying different settings on the TST AND 2/1 and the Smarty on the low settings seems the best for mileage. But I'm dyno'ing almost 700 horse, diesel only. So, I'll take the lower mileage.

Will you be willing to donate your truck for a autopsy to see why you are getting such great mileage? We can get you an autographed picture of Al Gore

Man I wish I could get 20, that would make me feel real good.

It is amazing how much the mileage can vary on a CTD, anywhere from 10 to 35mpg LOL.

take all the sheet metal off, build a little frame to hold the steering column up and a mount for the seat and idle it down the road in direct... it might get 35mpg

yeah, I'm not in love w/ the mileage of my '04 on 35 Toyo MT's

it's got dynatrac hubs, and I've been kinda/sorta trying to drive it nicer, but it's hard when it runs so well, and I don't pay for fuel

but if I had to guess, it's probably in the 15ish range... at least the way I drive.

whereas my 2wd 98 gets 17 driving the dog snot out of it

my red 98 was one of the best trucks I've had... it would pull down an honest 18-19 at 80mph w/ 285 BFG AT 10 plys and a leveling kit... I know it sounds absurd, but I hand calculated it. I ran it at 18. 5* timing, and I think it was a pretty good match for the RPM I ran.

my '04 has 4. 10's, so it NEEDS 35's minimum :( I'm thinking about trying some 37x12. 5 AT's next time it's time to buy tires

I also run my TNT/r on wild rail pressure, and contrairy to logic, I've read/heard that the higher rail pressure hurts cruise MPG  but I can't bring myself to lower it because it runs so much better this way

MY 03 TWIN TURBO 63LITRE INJECTOR TRUCK WITH 8 INCH ROCK KRAWLER LIFT AND 37-20S GETS THE BEST OF 15-16 MPG ON FLAT GROUND WITH THE CRUISE SET, THE FIRST ENGINE WAS GETTING 21 MPG WITH AN EDGE EZ, BULLY DOG INTAKE AND 5 INCH EXHAUST WITH 35 INCH TIRES AND A LEVEL LIFT, AND THE SECOND ENGINE WAS GETTING 19 MPG WITH 3-FLOWS MODIFIED PUMP AND TWIN TURBOS WITH TST-MP-8 STACK SIX INCH LIFT WITH 37-17 BFG MTS, THE NEWEST ENGINE MIGHT GET 8-10 AROUND TOWN WITH AN EGG ON THE THROTTLE:rolleyes:

I am not saying i am not happy with my mileage, usually 15-17 mostly highyway 80/20%, just said I would be jumping around at 20.

It does help with the G56 running 37's ant the 3. 73's turning 2000rpm @ 70mph.

My philosophy with calculating mpg is when you fill up and see liquid at the filler neck 1 minute after done topping and it doesn't move then you are "topped off" ,thats the only way you can track your mpg properly. How many of you high MPG'ers are doing just that:confused:

If you hand calculate over 2-3 or more tanks, little variations between fillups cancel out, so you don't need to fill it up perfectly everytime. I stop after 2-3 shutoffs.

If you want to dissect drive on out and bring your tools. I do agree with you on the filler neck gray area, thus I only posted the range in which I have hand calculated and not any of the exact numbers. As I know it can be different depending on truck angle and various other factors.

This driving were I am seeing this mileage is flat and I do mean flat look at a topo map of the Arkansas delta and see what I mean. For us to go sledding when it snows we have to go use an interstate overpass to have a hill.

I am just as sceptical as most of the others on board about high mileage numbers because they're not susposed to happen, but this truck does do it.

This truck also runs like it has a programmer on it but it doesn't (I bought it new from the dealership and have done nothing to it but change the oil in it)

When you get on it from a stop it will smoke like you have low boost fooler on it.

I am just proud it is paid off so I want go and do something stupid like trade it off.

Sorry I ruffled some feathers I just don't think the overheads are accurate. I see my overhead all over the place. Just Topped off "saw fuel in the filler neck overhead showed 20. 5 mpg hand calc 15 mpg , avg 28 mph. At this time I am not using the Jr. , so it is completely stock , last half tank fillup overhead 21. 6 ,hand calc 17. 2 this one avg 33. 4 mph. Go figure:confused:

Overheads are definately not accurate, especially if running power adders.

I reset mine after a fill up, upon refueling my overhead said 21. 2, hand calculated 16. 4.

I should never habd calculate that way I would feel so much better!

I also agree that the overheads are not accurate that is why I always hand calcultate. It just so happens that on my 04. 5 the overhead is almost always with + or - . 5mpg. Now on my 03 my overhead is always off.

Grizz I sure wish I had the time to come visit your part of the country.

I do enjoy most parts of the state, especially our northern mountains and into southern Colorado. Best time to visit New Mexico is October during the Balloon Festival.
