Early in the third generation run, I would say for at least the first several years, the entry level models used 245 tires as opposed to the 265's on the SLT and Laramie. I don't know what the rationale was other than the possibility of saving a few $ on the cheaper truck.

There won't be any interference, being so tiny. But since 265/70/17 looks small on these trucks, I don't think you will like how they look. I think once they are on the truck, you'll take one look at it and say " Oh, what did I do?"

Remember 245 is the width, 65 is aspect ratio (percentage of width) dictating sidewall height. So 65% of 245 vs 70% of 265(stock) will be a much shorter, silly looking tire.

Did I mention it would look stupid?

Yep they look like donuts but... ...

There will be two definite advantages.
1. ) The truck won't sit so high. Easier to load, lower center of gravity making it less susceptible to crosswinds.
2. ) Better tire for towing - shorter sidewall means less sway for the the tow vehicle and trailer - better stability.

Truck will only sit one inch lower (tire is 2 inches shorter), look dumb, and have lower load capacity. Sounds like a winner... all you need now is white-walls on those tires and you'll be all set!

I have a 2009 2500 and want to know if I can put P245/65R17 on it and if so will there be any issues?

As long as you stay with an E rated tire you will be fine except the 245 will wear a lot faster.

As for some of you people that have exprssed such NEGATIVE OPINIONS. He did not ask for your APPROVAL or need it. This is why a lot of the new members DON"T post and don't stay. Lighten up!

Got to agree with ata. Whether they look "stupid" or not is pretty subjective. I've read that my old 265's looked stupid too but they sure out perform the big tires when it comes to towing, etc.

1. They WILL look stupid.
2. Do they even come in load range E???
3. Highest load range I found on tire rack was "XL" which is 2403 lbs in this size, so they would not be recommended.
4. They will STILL look stupid.
5. You are entitled to my opinion.

You're welcome.

So, is "stupid looking" still subjective?

245/65/17 have their place... maybe on a Ford Ranger... not a 2500 diesel Ram.
