I have a harrison scantool (PC Based) that I have used for a long time.

I got a check engine light on my 2010 Ram the other day, and read P013a (O2 sensor).

Since the dealer was closed, and since I had to take a week long buisness trip, I wrote down the code and cleared it...

I took the truck into the dealer and gave them the code... .

They were ****** that I cleared the code, and denied service since "They didn't see the code"

They told me to never clear codes again.

today I put the scan tool on my truck, and it can no longer "See the vehicle"...

Could the dealer have locked out the port on me?

If the did... they are going to see me in court if they don't unlock it immediately!#@$%!

Is it possible ... can they lock the port out except for starscan tools?

I verified that there is Power getting to the OBD port... just no comm.

Everything read fine before taking it to the dealer... now no Comm.

I am going to take a ride to the dealer tomorrow to see exactly what is going on!

Same scan tool reads my wifes Honda S2000 fine.....

and Since the "tool" takes it's power from the OBD port itself, I know it is getting juice... so no blown fuse issue.

Check to see if some twit at the dealer cut or pulled loose a comm wire. Or it could be something as simple as a bent pin in the connector if they misaligned it.

I don't believe they have the capability to disable it selectively, and since a working OBD is required for emissions compliance, they'll have to fix the port in warranty if they screwed it up.

PS on some of my previous trucks I have put seals over the ports and tags telling the dealer techs hands off so they could not reflash the truck without my consent. They probably didn't appreciate that either. But it's my truck.

Male side is on the scan tool side. . and all pins look fine and straight...

Females are on the truck side.....

they appeared fine... .

I believe pin 5 os gnd and 16 Battery pos... .

Not sure what other pins on the truck side are what... .

Since my scan tool is for OBD2 and CAN it has pins in 2,5,6,7,10,13,14,15,16.

I'm going to try setting a code (disconnect the EGR) and then try reading the code... .

If plugging the egr makes the check engine light go out. . and I still cant read anything... then off to the dealer!

I wanted to get an edge Insite... that would give me all the info I need... but since the OBD port seems out of comission. . I need to get that fixed first!

If the dealer gives me any flack about the insight... . I may loose what's left of my mind!

Ok... I'm now convinced it was my scan tool after all... .

Took it to the dealer, and told them I can't get any data from the OBD port...

THe connected both the starscan and then even brought out an over teh counter scanner... and both worked fine!

Got home and tried again with my scan tool. . still no go.

Went and bought an Actron CP-9580 hand held scan tool, and can read all live data fine... .

Back to being a happy camper now... .

this actron is a pretty neat scan tool... . small and powerful!

I have a question for the professionals...

Okay, all... Since y'all OBVIOUSLY know A LOT more about this entire situation than I probably ever will... I have a question for you...

Does anyone know if I install an Edge Insight CTS if it will void the "factory" warranty and/or the aftermarket service contract???

I called TechAuthority, the Ram Owner's Club & my local dealership. TA said, no problem. ROC said, other than lift kits and programmers that effect the operation and/or programming of the drivetrain, no problem. Dealership (Service Advisor AND Cummins Mechanic), "I have no idea... " both followed by a blank stare like the perverbial dear in the headlights...

Any insight, experiences, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated!!! I just want the capability to monitor more of the truck's operation than the EVIC is able to show.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks, Larry! Just to bring this all up front for our newer members, I'll post the MMA directly from Title 15, Section 2302, United States Code on the main forum...
