Besides the gasket and threads... there is alot of specs to consider like flow, micron, bypass pressure, media etc etc.
Things pretty darn big now!!! About twice that of a Duramax anyhow!
If you can prove that the specs are the same as whats called for, and you can fit it on there, it couldn't hurt much and I doubt it could ever weigh enough to break the filter head assembly.
And if it causes a problem... it won't hurt you personally. But it might hurt your feelings pretty bad.
I have yet to see any "B" series Cummins with a larger filter then what we all use now. Pick-ups, Class 5-6 trucks, Log Skidders and Forwarders, Generators, Cranes, Marine all have the same basic oil filter. I am pretty sure that the stock filter offers all of the filtration needed for MOST people and applications. There most likely are a few exceptions and folks that have added filtration for whatever reason but 99% of these little diesels are quite happy with the filter the engineers settled with.
It is prudent in my opinion to run the "Stratopore" Fleetguard filter, nothing else will do. Whether I sell them over the counter or out to the shop, if it's a Cummins it gets Fleetguard Filters. A few customers will insist they want something cheaper but I can talk them out of it as a rule.
