I remember reading somewhere that all vin numbers that start with 1 are made in US, sold in Canada. All 2's are made in Canada and sold in the US. All 3's are made in Mexico and sold in US and Canada.
That's why my 97 that started with 1 was made in the US, sold in Canada and had the day time running lights.

My truck was made in Mexico. It has, by far, the best fit and finish of any of my 3 CTD's. The engine was made in the USA (or at least some of it was). My son's 1500 HEMI was made in the USA and, I believe, the engine was made in Mexico. There is nothing wrong with the quality of the trucks made south of the border. There may be other issues, such as jobs, unions, etc. , but in any case, I would not worry about getting a Mexican truck vs: a truck with a 1 in the VIN. Start looking around in any vehicle and it looks like the United Nations.
