Plumbing Question---Pipe Knock/Rattle

Why men don't write advice columns!

I don't own any semi autos yet but have got it down to the Sig 226 or the Springfield Armory XD M. So far can't make up my mind. Thinking 9m/m.
All comments are welcome. - Thanks

Both are great choices.

I have a 220 ST. It's a freakin truck! Way to heavy for CCW. But mine is all stainless.

I'd say go for the lighter gun if you plan to CCW (as long as it fits your hand well) and if not the P226 is an excellent gun.

IMO you cant go wrong either way.

I almost bought an XD when they werent marked by SA. They were $199. #@$%!

I have an XD40 Tactical (5" barrel) Love it. It is very reliable, except it doesn't like PMC 165 grain ammo. I haven't handled the M yet. I don't know why you'd need the thumb safety with the grip and trigger safety, but as long as you're familiar with it, it should be great.

I'm looking to eventually get the Compact for CCW.

go to a rang were you can rent a gun and shoot them both see witch one fits you best. they both great weapons and you cant go wrong either way.

Ah, the HS2000... ... those were the days.

Either gun is a good one. My preferences are to the Sig from a functionality standpoint--they just fit my hand & eye better.

I have a little experience with both guns. I have shot many Sigs over the years and they are among some of the best handguns ever produced. Of the many Sig's that I have shot, I have never experienced an accuracy problem.

I may be wrong, but if my memory serves me correctly Sig's have always passed Federal Gov't testing. I know they're an old technology gun in this age of polymers but they flat out perform.

I recently purchased a Springfield XD 9mm with a 4" barrel and I have to say it's the least accurate gun that I have ever owned. My groups with the XD at 25 yards are in the 8" range with fliers. I have several other handguns that will shoot groups half this size.

Both Beverly Hills PD and Vernon PD have switched to the Springfield XD. Beverly Hills PD went with the 5" barreled guns and Vernon PD with 4" barreled guns. According to my contact, Beverly Hills 5" barreled guns shoot fine with no accuracy issues. Vernon PD on the other hand with the 4" barreled guns have reportedly replaced all of their barrels with outside source barrels.

Based on my experience with many guns, it's a no brainer... . Get the SIG.

Not to hijack the thread but nice to hear Springfield finally getting a few contracts. Heard the military is ditching the Berettas maybe Springfield can get on a large contract. Own a Browning/Sig P220 great shooter, like the double action.

Thanks jray for sharing your experience with the XD. Since I would perfer the XD M, which they say has a match grade barrel in it, I wonder if that would make any difference? I sure don't need any 8" groups! Thanks

I don't think the U. S. Military is interested in giving a contract to a company whose handguns are made in Croatia. I could see them giving a contract to Smith & Wesson an American owned company.

Jerky,

I later noticed that your thread was related to the XD-M. That particular gun I have no information on. I haven't shot it and so far I haven't even seen one at the range. Of the polymers I am very partial to the new Smith & Wesson M&P. I have been involved in torture testing of the M&P 9mm's and I can report they seem to be very durable guns. One of the guns a full sized 9mm M&P went over 30,000 rounds before a part broke. The part that broke, did not prevent the gun from firing and the gun continued to work. The piece that broke was the right side slide release lever (used by lefty's). I'm right handed so it didn't affect me.

Good luck with your choice.

Thought S&W was owned by an English conglomerate?

just at the range with son and shot his Sig 9mm very accurate, also his H&K 40 nice shooter too

Smith was bought back from the english company, and is now American owned again.

Why wouldn't the military give the contract to a company in Croiatia, they gave it to company in Italy.

Isn't Springfield Armory American? I know the XD's are made in Croatia, but they also have a great lineup of 1911's. Maybe that's what the gov't is looking at. I know there was a bid a year or so ago for a replacement for the 92, but it was cancelled. Taurus' new gun was originally made to fill that bill. I'm sure several others were too.

Talked to my friends in the counter terror portion of the SP's and they told me the US government was looking at a replacement for the 9mil, but it got quashed and is now dead. It might be brought up later but who can say.

or you could get sig quality and xd weight. that would be an HK. i had a SA xd45. is was pretty good but had constant issues with reliability. im the only one who seems to have had this problem but when its my ccw, that wont work. traded that for a usp 45 tac and id sell my kidney before that one goes. speny but worth it. that being said, i hate glocks but is my current ccw. i can get 2 for the price of my hk. mags are half as much. dead nuts reliable. a guy i was in basic with was a police armorer and they all issued s&w m&p's. they had nothing but good to say about them. i prefer DA/SA triggers and manual safties. shoot em all, hold them all, then pick the one thats the most comfy to you. if it doesnt fit right, you wont like it and shoot it as much.

last thing i heard they wanted DA/SA triggers and double stacked mags in . 45acp. thats what the taurus was built to.

Do you have problems with the last round feeding out of the magazine? I have that with my XD40, but only with PMC ammo. I think the crimp on PMC is not as tight, and that little itty bitty bit hangs up. No problems with Remington ammo or handloads.
