Both are great choices.
I have a 220 ST. It's a freakin truck! Way to heavy for CCW. But mine is all stainless.
I'd say go for the lighter gun if you plan to CCW (as long as it fits your hand well) and if not the P226 is an excellent gun.
IMO you cant go wrong either way.
I almost bought an XD when they werent marked by SA. They were $199. #@$%!
Heard the military is ditching the Berettas maybe Springfield can get on a large contract.
p-Bar said,
I don't think the U. S. Military is interested in giving a contract to a company whose handguns are made in Croatia. I could see them giving a contract to Smith & Wesson an American owned company.
Jerky,
I later noticed that your thread was related to the XD-M. That particular gun I have no information on. I haven't shot it and so far I haven't even seen one at the range. Of the polymers I am very partial to the new Smith & Wesson M&P. I have been involved in torture testing of the M&P 9mm's and I can report they seem to be very durable guns. One of the guns a full sized 9mm M&P went over 30,000 rounds before a part broke. The part that broke, did not prevent the gun from firing and the gun continued to work. The piece that broke was the right side slide release lever (used by lefty's). I'm right handed so it didn't affect me.
Good luck with your choice.
Isn't Springfield Armory American? I know the XD's are made in Croatia, but they also have a great lineup of 1911's. Maybe that's what the gov't is looking at. I know there was a bid a year or so ago for a replacement for the 92, but it was cancelled. Taurus' new gun was originally made to fill that bill. I'm sure several others were too.
i had a SA xd45. is was pretty good but had constant issues with reliability
