Went to the dealer today to get the high idle option done on my truck and they would not do it. They said it was illegal and will void the warranty, and they did not want to be responsible for doing it.

What a crock of @#$%

Go to another dealer, I would not let someone that stupid near my truck let alone work on it... That's why it is in the DRB under Engine Misc. then I guess to break the law

I've heard some idiotic dealer statements over the years, but this one is the worst.

I agree - run, don't walk, to a different dealer. One who knows what planet he's on.

I take it you are refering to the idle control with the cruise buttons? If so, does anyone now if this can be done on a '03? Thanks

No the cruise high idle function is only on 04-06 trucks, I think the time they changed over to the new steering wheel is when it got enabled... .

Cardineau thanks for the offer. I may have to take you up on that if this Dodge dealer talked to yesterday cant help me. I found one dealer that said we have herd of this but have never done one, so if you want to bring it out we will try to set it up for you. I told them I will be there first thing on Friday morning. So I hope they know what to do with there computer to get it to work.

Iii let ya know what happens. Thanks.

I want to get this done too, You guys think I should take the juice out of the truck before taking it in?

Yeah... I'd say so. That means both the intake and the juice. Pretty lazy not to, risking warranty and all.

^%$#@%^&((*(^*&$*&&)+&(*^$&^%$@#

I cant believe there is not a competent Dodge dealer here in Western Pa that can turn on a high idle option let a lone even herd of it. If this is how all the Dodge dealers are going to be around here and how there service is that they cant take 5 minutes out of there day to help someone without having to make an appointment a week and a half in advanced then All I can say is this will be the last Dodge I ever buy. I have called 2 dozen different dealers and not a one has a clue to what in the hell to do with a diesel. Hell I bet they couldn't find there arses with a map. Now the only option I have is to go out of state. Dodge dealers and there 5 star service what a joke. How about a 5 star we screw the customer.

First I guess would be warmup. Second would be that diesels run cold at idle and won't burn fuel totaly. Hard on piston rings etc. Diesels work better at constant run speeds. If going to extened idle it allows Rpms to be held at a given spot like 1200 or 1300 rpm and creates more heat allowing fuel to be burned more totaly.

What is the purpose of the high idle option? Long idling periods?

Yes, that is part of it. I also want to for when I am at a fire call so I can idle it up rather it be hot or cold out side. Also with where I work I cant plug my truck in and when working out on some of the heavy equipment in the cold. Some times you are to far away from the office to warm up or there is no office.

My 04. 5 has the high idle turned on. If you want to drive to Sioux Center, IA to Voss Motors, Dennis will have one of the guys activate it for you.

What a boat load of cr@p!!!

Sometimes makes you wonder how some of these "techs" make a living, if they cant figure this out, how are they going to diagnose hard problems?

geezz...

It does make you wonder, but you think the Dodge dealers are bad, I have been reading on a SnowPlow discussion forum and they have just absolute horror stories about their Fords, my god I could not even imagine some of the tings that they are going through not to mention you guys complain about a week and a half apointment ( not that I blame you) but some of these guys have had to wait for 1-2 months to get their trucks worked on :--) Just remeber that the grass is not always greener on the other side... .
