My trip to San Antonio, Texas

Aluminum vs. Steel construction

I'm looking for opinions on enclosed car trailers. I'm looking to get a 24 foot with an extra foot of height. I have it narrowed down to a Pace or Haulmark, but I'm looking for any input or opinions. I like the Wells Cargo also, but there is no W. C. dealer near me that I like, and when it comes to service or warranty issues I want a dealer I can trust. I know some will say to go all aluminum, but I just don't have that kind of extra cash right now. Thanks for any input that you can provide.

Go with the heaviest axles offered if you have not already ordered' why are you going one foot extra height? Mark

The alm thing is over rated, you have a diesel and the weight is not an option, so don't worry about it. Look at the build quality, the two manf. you stated offer good trailers, but also offer several different levels of trailers. I just purchased a haulmark EDGE 36' tri-axel gooseneck, kodiak front, sprint car roof,6'side double door, alm int. ,cabinets, tire racks,ac w/heat, gen, front lounge, you get the picture. Any way it pulls and tracks very good, can say it's the best i've ever pulled. Structure wise very sound,16" centers, nice welds, ect. Interior was none nice, there were a few places i'd liked better, but better then most. Make sure you get the options you want, it's alot cheaper now then latter. Also re-sale is better on nicer trailers(just sold 28' tag, tri-axel,enclosed full option) to a guy in cally, yes he even paid me to deliver? gooseneck are so much easier to tow, cost a little more but a worth every cent. If you get a generator compartment make sure it's a true sealed compartment, not just a door that opens up to under the bench, thats useless, can't run gen. Sounds like common sense, but I have seen them out there. Also add up the weight of your car, quad, ect what ever you are going to haul, add in the trailer weight, and then add in another 25%, this way you can get the right axel rateing. Red fades bad, and make sure you get brakes on all the axels. Also compare the flooring matterials, should be atleast 3/4" plywood, treated. If you a going to have D-rings installed, think about how you will be tying the thing down, and where YOU want them to go. Also E-TRACK is the best option you can get, I like it 18"-24" aff, down each wall. Think about the lights, and there switches, where do you want them? And a wheel well cabinet is well worth the money, oh yell, if you go with HAULMARK, the chrome cabinet fronts are great. I bought mine from MSI, in Indiana.

Thanks for the info guys, I REALLY appreciate it. Mark, I need the extra height because along with the trailer's primary use of hauling a show car, it will occasionally be hauling my John Deere tractor. Even with the roll bar folded down, the tractor wouldn't fit into the standard 74" high opening.

Y-knot, I have also been looking at the Haulmark Edge and was impressed with what I saw. I'm guessing that I will probably go with the Haulmark Edge over the Pace Shadow G. T. only because I like the dealer better and feel like I would get better service should there be a problem. Who says that good customer service doesn't sell? :)

Was the 28' tag that you sold also a Haulmark? Is that why you bought your current one? By the way your new trailer sounds fantastic!

Glade you like the trailer, I love it, only wish I would have gotten another 12"'s added to the roof. The 28' tag was an AMERICAN EAGLE, it was a very nice trailer, only complaint was the lenght in a tag was hard to menover. I had a dragster and ran add to sell it, well the guy was from CA and wanted them both, so I sold it. Not sorry, I was wanting something different, just didn't think it would come so soon. On a tag, make sure the tounge has a center member. If you go with the EDGE, I think you'll be happy. Oh, if your just needing room for the tractor, the sprint car foof adds 18" to the last 12', might be cheaper, pulls nicer, and tooks kool. Also the rear door latches on the edge, are the best in the bussiness, work great, recessed. also with the sprint car roof option, your rear door is 18" longer, might help with the show car, has a better angle for low cars. I have a 33' ford that some day i'll get to.

I don't know why I didn't think of the sprint car option, I've only been staring at the "options" list for the last week...

You've got me convinced on the Edge, I'll probably order today.

If you ever get that fancy trailer this far north with one of your races let me know, I like to admire things that I can't afford. :D

I had a haulmark and had nothing but trouble. Warranty work was never done right. Also stay away from a dealer in Morris, IL called Marine Specialties!! They are just terrible.

Check out HHCargo trailers. I think there site is HHcargo.com. I have not bought one yet either, but they have the best web site with the most information I have seen about enclosed trailers. They are made in Iowa and we have a dealer local to me in Michigan. A little pricey I thought, but really no more than the brands you are looking at. Please let me know If you do get one. I can't wait, I just want a 18-20 ft car hauler for the same things you mentioned, cars and tractor.

The dealer that carries the Haulmark also carries H&H. I was also impressed with what I saw but he only had the open trailers at the time I was there. I decided to hold off on ordering one yet until I look at the H&H enclosed that he will have in next week. It will be a 20 footer. Too small for what I need but at least I'll be able to look at the detail of the build quality. Thanks for the input.
