I've been wearing Chrhartt jackets for close to 20 years. One thing that I always liked was the fact that they were a symbol of American made clothing. Indeed the tag even had a union label on it. Another thing I liked is their customer service. I am pretty hard on my clothing, and in both cases both of my jackets broke their zippers.
About 8 years ago, I lamented to my work uniform dealer about this, and he gave me a 800 phone number to Carhartt. They were happy to repair jacket #1 and they did send a postage paid bag and they sewed in a new zipper. I sitll wear #1 today, and like an old pair of jeans, is great! I was sold on Carhartt for life!
Jacket #2 which was purchased in the above scenario at the uniform store, which served well also, was US made. This zipper broke but in a different way after 8 years. I called them back, and was met with the same friendly customer service. This time was a little different, however. They didn't offer to repair the same jacket. They offered to replace the whole jacket if the claim was acceptable. When I heard this, I turned a little skeptical but held my breath. I was real curious about the jackets being made here anymore since they admitted to not doing repairs any longer. They emailed me a tag, and I sent it out. Sure enough, after a phone conversation, I recieved a new jacket in short time.
This is bittersweet because while I did get a new item, it's made in Mexico and of course the union label is gone.
As I gave this some thought, I recalled many moons ago talking about work clothes in general and for a while Dickies was good until they went south. Now Carhartt.
What's left for patriotic people to wear?
